ROYSTON TOWN BAND and ROYSTON DEVELOPMENT BAND were very pleased to return to Parish Church of St John the Baptist in Royston for our Spring Concert 2023. This was the first time we'd been back since the church suffered a devastating fire in December 2018. Happily the church has been fully restored and the acoustic is just as lovely as it always was. Our enthusiastic audience was keen to hear the bands and we were also joined by friends from La Loupe, Royston's twin town in France.
The finale of the concert was a performance of HUNGERFORD TOWN which had been set as the test piece for the 2023 Fourth Section Regional Contest. It's not always the case that a contest piece is suitable to play at a concert but HUNGERFORD TOWN really is. It's descriptive music in four linked movements, starting with dramatic themes in THE BLACK PRINCE followed full tilt by THE COACH ROAD. The third movement depicts the calm of ST. LAWRENCE'S CHURCH before we head over to the famous coaching inn THE BEAR.
This video includes images of the band captured during our time on stage at the contest in March plus some photographs of St. Lawrence's Church that Musical Director STEVE EARLEY took during a visit to seek inspiration (he also visited The Bear🍻).

Great to see , well from what i could see , NO empty seats , makes all the difference when you get a full house . Well played band , nice lower section although as a Euph/Bari player i'm biased ...well played all .
