@@zatrusofnietzche2281 My CLF instructor told me that if I wanted to see application, all I needed to do was to watch Marvin Hagler, so there is a lot of crossovers in techniques. The YT channel "The Modern Martial Artist" has some awesome breakdowns of his footwork. Pay particular attention to the stance changes in the footwork. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6uUeIGif6mZZ9E

Not all wing chun styles are alike. There are older lineages that have twisting stances, hook punches, etc. it’s not common, but it does exist.

Good stuff. The only falsehood, however, is when you demo the "spear" at :58. You are not penetrating with any depth. If you do your Wing Chun punches without depth of penetration, then you are not doing them correctly Either. (I call these "Surface level hits") Not only that... but the WC punch is not just an "ARM" punch. Its a whole-Body-mass punch, when its done properly. People need to learn how to connect their entire body, throwing it forwards, and connecting it behind those punches. Its similar to stabbing with the staff. If you stop less than 1" into the OPs abdomen... thats a shallow surface hit, and has no mass, nor much power on it. If you were to sit in a chair, and just use your arms to thrust the pole... EVEN IF you put more penetration depth into the thrusts... it will still be somewhat weak. But if you use your whole body as well as your arms... you get a MUCH more powerful impact. One thing that WC and other Internal arts do best... is to be relaxed until the very moment of solid impact. Its only at that exact moment, do we tighten the entire body, to unify the mass... and provide a solid path of conduction. Its tightened and released in a fraction of a second... and so the outside observer will not know the difference, by merely looking at two fighters going at it. You only know the difference, when you are hit.. and thus FEEL the difference. So... if you are throwing your rolling punches so fast that you are not even able to tighten your body on impact... then you are only using your Arm force / Arm mass... and of course, that will be WEAK as hell. It may be enough to get the OP to back off, or to move his arms into a trap... but these strikes are not going to do much in the line of serious harm.. to a serious aggressor. The delay between full body tightening, and not doing it... is so small in delay, as to almost not be visible. You can also start out with a non-mass strike for a "Setup", such as to merely knock the OPs head backwards... and its quickly followed up by the 2nd hit, which has your full mass behind it. Since their head was already moved backwards... the next hit will not allow them to be able to use the typical head-back-absorb technique. Even If you lack good power in your tension abilities... If you step forwards while striking, you will at least have some forwards body mass + momentum, behind the strikes. All of this said... its also great to be able to do these Larger swing attacks as well.

Hey mate. Valid points. Though, I think making an assessment on whether a technique is correct or incorrect on a section of video that isn't about that particular technique is, for lack of a better word, lazy. We train Wing Chun and internal arts too. I urge you to check out other videos of the channel as well before making an assessment of what is "correct" or "incorrect". Furthermore, and I mean this with the utmost respect, a profile that has no content to demonstrate their 'assessment' is not one I would like to put faith in when it comes to critique. Maybe share a few of YOUR videos to demonstrate your skill/point. Would help you, and everyone here as well. Cheers.

can see how this could be effective by someone who has trained and gained experience in it. Basically it is just a very wide overhand or hook punch. A very commonly thrown punch in a street fight, but usually they throw it wide like that only because they are not trained. Looks like your system has turned the "unskilled, common wide hook" into an effective tool. So how does your system defend against such a punch?
