But between Jakob, Soundtestroom and Jade Starr most apps are covered individually. Jakob! I’m very happy with my M1 MacBook Air, it has everything i need to run Ableton Live and the plugins i paid for AND was dirt cheap. There may be a number of M1 MacBook Airs on the used market as Apple has recently trimmed the buy-back price for M1 MacBook Airs to only $400. Apple is always pushing “new” stuff so even the recent stuff seems “old”. (You could also get an M1 Mac Mini and enjoy the same success!) This means you could get a used M1 MacBook Air (or M1 Mac Mini) and use it with a nice DAW… but operate it from your iPad over Apples Sidecar (Apple’s solution to getting Mac/iPad to work together)… so you can keep pacing around the room while using a genuine Mac!

This developers apps are truly great! And free!? BYOD is now my go to distortion for guitar, I bypass the cab sims to go to others I own but they are good too! Haven’t watched Jakob Haq in quite some time, but he’s pretty great too! To see that this video released probably right around the time I discovered BYOD is pretty cool!

This is freaking awesome! New Sub, during the shutdown I found a cheap green backdrop with some extra tripod stands I happen to have, a $9 app & 2 outdated iPad Air 2's we bought used years earlier. My 2 younger daughters both under 10 made killer stop-motion videos & green-screen images. This year they are getting legit upgrades, Including a cheap but nice for intro PYLE Usb studio mixer

Great video, thanks. What is it that excites you about Surge? I had a quick listen, and I like the sounds in Gadget better. But I have not gone into depth. Are there some particular sounds Surge is brilliant at?

You need to look way deeper. I’d say that Surge is good at making almost any type of sounds because it offers a lot of different synthesis engines. It’s got 12 various oscillator types including stuff like classic, FM, Wavetable, String and even audio input just to name a few. . It also has a huge bank of various filter types including a waveshaper. The modulation souped up too and the LFOs includes a DAHDSR envelope. LFOs can be split and used for individual scenes (each patch has two scenes). The synth also has a good amount of nice sounding effect modules. . You really have to look into the manual to truly grasp the depth of Surge. It’s a sound designers wet dream and it’s free. On top of that, the project is “Alive” thanks to new things being contributed and introduced by its dedicated open source devs. . I admit that I’m not your most common consumer. As a sound I designer never get synthesizers for the sounds that they contain, I get synthesizers for the sounds I can make with them. However, in the case of Surge … you don’t really need to make your own. The synth comes packed with over 2800 presets! And they’ve all been made by dedicated members of the Surge community and many of those patches are really good.

I like to program sounds too, but my main focus is the music rather than the tech. If I did proper evaluations of every option I would be a full time evaluator! Love your channel.

The problems with licensing sound similar to what happened with porting over VCV into miRack. Dev had to talk to every developer and use the version of the code with the compatible license. Would be nice if there was a good solution to make it easier. Open source has a lot of benefits, especially for one man teams.

Regarding names on the App Store. Apple only allows you to use your real name or a legal company name - so you have to be a registered business to use something besides your name. Incorrect. They’re all completely free. Four of them include “Tip Jar” IAP options which are optional. You don’t need to pay anything in order to use the apps. Nothing is locked behind paywalls. I refer to the tip jar options at 21:11 in this video.
