I was about to say. I mean I've had my fair share of BS in the online scene, but NOTHING is to the scale of this guy. I mean I've had Sonic circle-camp me for 7 minutes on Palutena's Temple (only to KO me in sudden death with homing attack, spot dodge, f-smash), I've had Snakes spam more grenades than all CoD games combined, and I have faced the most campy of Samus players they have to offer. But THIS... this was something else entirely.

Getting into Elite is not even proof of skill because I get trashed harder by people in the 10-12 mil bracket sometimes than an entire afternoon in mid level Elite. TONS of frauds play this game. You can find that kind of "Item ON" Mickey Mouse bullshit players in deep Elite too. You gotta understand that if you REALLY wanna flex that you're good at this game, you gotta do it offline in at least one local, because Online is just a cesspool of trolls. Some people suck at the game, but they grind their cheesy spamming playing style 24/7 so they become really good at just that and manage to get to Elite on the back of a one trick pony. That is how INSIGNIFICANT Online Smash is as a platform to gauge your actual skill level. Go play people IRL, go to live practice, get professional players to coach you, etc. No matter how good you are online, it doesn't mean shit.

I tend to run into a lot of players like this Mii Gunner, and I'm 100% just a casual player. I play whatever character I feel like at the time, so I don't have one good character I could easily win with. People like this Mii Gunner absolutely ruin the casual side of online and it's good to feel validated by a pro having the same experience.

Across the board it might be Mii Gunner, but at low GSP it’s probably Zelda. They rig the rule set so that they get smash ball / smash meter, because Zelda on FD/Battlefield/SBF has arguably the most oppressive final smash in the entire game. I have to deal with that regularly as a Ryu main. Sometimes I can work hard enough to win anyways but against characters like samus, mii gunner, wii fit trainer banjo, steve, etc, there’s not much I can do yet it makes me look ironic anyways which anybody should understand that I can only put up with that bottomless pit of unfairness and injustice for so long before I find the safest way possible to bust. There was a few times where DK could have used his up special on the ground to have his super armor help him escape combos. Also, I fucking hate rage quitters, like that gunner did at the end. They spend several games winning, but as soon as they loose ONE fight, they instantly disconnect to save their points from being lowered.

I think this is why I stepped away from playing Smash Ultimate online, it's because of the idea of me running into people like this Mii Gunner who only seek to win by any means just so they can maintain an Elite Smash position. They abuse every trick in the book; playing Characters that have an advantage while the game is lagging, using custom rulesets that allow them to cheese victories, taunting you with T-bags to piss you off and make mistakes through anger, and disconnecting just before losing to avoid losing any GSP. Every time I tried to give Quickplay or a random Arena a chance, it felt like I was only making my afternoon worse when I was simply trying to have fun with a character I enjoy playing. I no longer see the achievement of simply making it into Elite Smash as something to be proud of if you're trying to evaluate your skill in the game, it is just a title to me now and all it definitively proves is that you have a high enough number to qualify, nothing more. I just wanted to vent how I personally felt about my experiences with online Smash Ultimate, and if you disagree, that's perfectly fine, in fact, don't have my words discourage you from playing if you feel you are having fun despite what I've said, I'm just stating why this kinda thing isn't for me.

It's not really that bad. He was just playing in a ruleset he doesn't practice at all, with a bad items on character, against a good items on character. The environment is strongly in the favor of his opponent. Items on can be a very fun game if you learn to not take the RNG too seriously and actually rationalize negativity bias.

Yes. Blame the players. Completely ignore the game designers and game developers that specifically programmed this game to be slow, defensive and campy compared to the peak that is Melee where there is actual combo freedom. Make sure to also ignore the corporation of Nintendo ignoring any criticism of online issues compared to games like Nick Brawl where online is actually decent thanks to rollback netcode. Y'all ain't ready for the conversation of blaming the game designer and developers before blaming the players just using what was programmed into the game.

This is why I think Smash Ultimate should have had a similar online thing to Smash 4. The more "competitive" side could be like a reworked For Glory with the actual GSP system and are essentially ranked matches, while there could be a separate "casual" side, maybe that could have the custom rulesets and stuff, but wouldn't have the GSP system so anyone that has the "competitive" custom ruleset can still at least somewhat practice without having to worry about kicked off of ranked matches. But then again I'm not a game dev so I imagine all this is just hard to implement and I'm probably talking nonsense.

I was like "He's just playing the character" at the beginning. Then came the tbag. And finally the ragequit after one loss. Yeah no, I take it back, guys an ass. Major thing I noticed is that HBox was trying to play DK like a Puff, with all the aerials. He could have thrown in more grounded NSpecials or FSpecial for super armor, even an aerial DSpecial for an alternative spike. Grounded DSpecial could've also been used as a good "Get off me" whenever you defaulted to Down Smash.

HBOX, I doubt you will see this, but in my opinion, the Mii Gunner was not the bad guy. You could have left at any time from the moment you ran into the Mii Gunner to the moment you beat him. You could have saved yourself so much frustration by just counting your losses and leaving the lobby with him, but you kept going, and not in the good way. Instead of staying determined and valiantly facing the elite smash final boss, you just kept throwing yourself at a wall in a rage where you were deadpan, yet tilted beyond belief, a feeling I have felt time after time when I played this game online, trust me. Please, if you find someone like that again, just leave them.

Hbox, gonna be real, I thought you were the GUNNER for the first 30 seconds. Mainly cause the Gunner knew how the items worked, baited you countless times into going for them, perfectly reflected a Pokeball at 2:59 knowing full well you would make the mistake of throwing it *at him* instead of throwing it *at your feet*, and had good punishes for them every single time. And even when the playing field was fair he held his own in the most annoying way possible. As much as I hate to say it cause of how toxic that punk was, the Gunner knew the game more than you did.
