Hunslet 0-6-0 'Newstead' - The Found Engine

This is the story of Hunslet 0-6-0 'Newstead'. Vanishing in the 1990's to an undisclosed location where the former owner lovingly built a shed around the engine. Newstead received a full overhaul before moving to its special shed, and was lovingly protected to keep it in an almost brand new condition. Our mission is to continue the story of this incredible locomotive.

A majority of the Reverends classic Thomas the Tank Engine tales were actually based off real life railroads and stories. Chances are that store was based off this (or a very similar,) engine!

I didn't think this sort of thing happened anymore, it does indeed sound something straight out of a Thomas story. I've heard of barn finds, but I would never dream of one being a steam locomotive, quietly tucked away and being put back together by one man.

It's like a Sound of Music film. The locomotive being hidden away in a convent. Blessed by God's Wonderful Railway. It is an amazing story with a happy ending for the engine.(new beginning really) Nice to see it alive again.

The locomotive with the demonstration goods train is likely to be 'Jack's Green', ex Nassington Ironstone mine. The exact same maker and model of locomotive, made in Leeds.

It's a standard design for brake vans. Several types have that design. Possibly allows slight load overhangs, but more likely was just to save money on bodywork!

Because the engine in steam wasn't "Newstead" but "Jack's Green" another Hunslet loco that's been on the NVR since retiring from the nearby Nassington quarry.
