Can I just say... you have my respect, I know this was 3 years ago, but I would be to terrified to do this!! the ground looks so soft and easy to skid on, every tight turn you did I was like 0_0 but I presume you put XC studs in your (horses) shoes?...I mean jumping what 1.30 brush jumps at a gallop, Geez... all I can say you are a VERY brave rider!

EllieTheHorse he was actually in a different section to all the horses ahead of him (they were all TBs and he was in the Non-TB section) ....I think he just took off a bit too far away from the jump causing him to clip the top and bring him down ! X

Did alot of these in my younger days on either one of 4 of my ottb racers I'd rescued and retrained. I'd only retired as a full time jockey 2 yrs before . Retired due to injury (broken back and shattered hips all pinned together physio got me going again. And as soon as I could ride again despite what drs said I rode and boy howdy did I ride). I'm 5'1" and the first horse I won a proper race on was a grey called Mighty Max who lived up to his name at 18.1hh. I'm forever greatful he was a easy to ride and gentle giant. We won the race by 5 and a half lengths and I was so happy I was crying with joy when I got off . They were worried about me until I told them why I was crying . First race and first win on a mountain of a gentle giant gelding . Who I'd ride many times over the next 5 yrs he raced . I bought him after he retired and he lived a spoiled life with me and did a few of these with me in his 11th and 12 th year of life. We had even won a few. Surprising many when they saw they giant horse and a tiny ex jockey up against what looked like ponies next to him. He died in his sleep of old age at 29 in 2005. He was still being ridden at RDA up to the weekend before he died. He loved those kids and they sure loved him . He could never get enough of pats and cuddles. He refused to be retired and still looked and moved like a much younger horse up till the end. He went from being a steel grey 5 yr old when I first met him to a snow white old man . But he still looked like he could have gone and run down the straight tail high and legs stretched to the max as he had done when young if someone had asked him too. For the kids he'd plod like an old pony . For those who knew how to ride well he'd give you the most amazing but easy to control ride of your life (in the good way . He was never mean or pulled or tossed his head. 5 yr Olds could ride him off the lead rope without bother. Many did their first poles and tiny jumps with him. He always was so careful with them. And you couldn't wipe the smile off their faces.). I so miss him everyday. I hope he's waiting for me on the other side.... And that they have horse races in heaven. And RDA too. Chriss from London UK

What a lovely story. I had an iron grey mare I bought as a 6 year old. I kept her til the end, a flea bitten grey. I too hope she's waiting for me on the other side .....

Does anyone use Quarter Horses?
@PurplePoppyAnimator5 жыл бұрын
Quarter Horses have fantastic Speed, but do not have nearly the amount of Stamina as they would need to complete a race like this, they would be exhausted and they're not quite suited to jumping. Steeplechase is a much longer race than even flat racing, and Quarter Horses wouldn't even be able to catch up with a flat Thoroughbred race, however there are separate shorter races for QH's alone, they excel in sprinting extremely short distances, and can actually outspeed a Thoroughbred in that regard. Ideal horses for this kind of race are Thoroughbreds and TB crosses.
