The game is extremely cool I gladly payed $20 for it, I mean 3 or 4 hours of pure 80s cool childhood movie references and gameplay is awesome. Instead there’s other games that waste your time doing meaningless fetch quests

Macho man was the best! Actually weirdly met him when I was really young at a hotel on holiday! Was so strange honestly but I got my photo with him! I must have been like 8 or something!

Yeah man, we were basically in florida, my family had saved up to take us on holiday their from the UK which was a big deal and they took me to the pool at this hotel and the wrestlers trained at the gym on top. I remember actually meeting macho man and then hulk hogan was randomly driving around in a speed boat waving at everyone lol. Super random but a good memory for sure!

This game is totally worth the price. Okay there’s nothing beyond the main game but it’s plenty worth it for a chance to go back in time to the 80s during that glorious time of gun-wielding, one liner-spouting, action movie goodness.

Love the game. Id buy dlc if they added extra levels and unlockable new characters. I think anyone who's a fan of 80's sci-fi movies will get a kick out of this title.

I like that it kept things simpler and didn't implement a scoring system or leaderboards. It is nice to just play a game for the fun of it without any of those pressures. The main challenge is to complete stages without dying, while collecting all the stashes, and killing all the enemies. More objective based than score based. I like the wide variety of bosses with one at the end of each level. Not a long game, but certainly a quality game.

I think every one has a different view point on value though, you gotta really like something to go in day one! Everyone does day one and then some will pick it up later down the line, full price or not though it’s still supporting the developer!

@@SwitchCorner exactly, to me the eshop has become more or less the stock market, as such I strategize accordingly..... I tend to do the research, add games to my wish list...and buy once reduced to one to three dollars. In some instances 6 dollars, in other 12 - 15, and at times 20 dollars...such as Starlink.... this is in Canadian Dollars... and considering I do not buy games...and if I have .....it is retro....like the N64... so I feel these studios have done well when it comes to capitalizing on a new market.... too often I buy multiple downloads of same title as I have a family of switches...children who like wireless play....the one studio the titles are consistent with is Qubic.... if they are listed on the stock market... I would not be surprised if I would buy into their options....it is an eventuality.....I am buying their games....it makes sense...

Depends on skill honestly, if you can no death run it probably a couple hours but it took me nearly double that the first time. This is a game that’s more designed to run it over and over again not just a single run

I turned on auto cover and I recommend it. Yeah but I wish the game had more meat to it tho, great game but for the price seamed a little high. Hopefully they bring some free dlc to the game.

Yeah that would be a nice touch for sure! I just wish they mixed up the trophies for each level so it added a bit more variety! Auto cover I never did use honestly; I’ll check it out!

I bought this on Pre-order and was really looking forward to it and it has been really good fun so far. It borrows from some of the great side 2D platform shooters. I have had lots of fun already and look forward to playing it all the way through. I know that it has come out during a pretty hectic month for releases and it has been an expensive month already and for that reason I can highly recommend this game not least for the detailed world and the funny one liners and the music. This is a very fair and even handed review and I agree with the conclusions but importantly I hope for 2 things; I hope that users buy the game now or later in a sale but buy it... and secondly, I hope that the developers make enough money and have enough success that they can add more content by way of an update in due course or that they bring us another game that showcases their undoubted love for quality games. Thanks for the review.

Great review as always. Not my favorite style of game if I'm being honest but your recommendations tend to be spot on. Love the graphical style and the music seems like it's straight out of the Movie Drive, one of my top 10 movies. I'll probably wait for a sale but I'll definitely be keeping ban eye on this. This is the second time LRG has done something like this with the first one, that I know of, being Streets of Rage IV. I bought SoR IV from LRG only for Merge to release it for $10 less and for the general public.

This retro style reminds me on some games I played on the C64, very cool. I like that you can choose between different characters and that there is a local co-op. The lack of content you mentioned could possibly be addressed with DLC.

I brought a physical copy for 20 bucks. Came with pins and a manual. I'm keeping that one forever. Plus I bought the digital version for like three bucks so I don't have to keep putting the disc in and to hopefully encourage them to make another game. Similar to this one are totally different but I bet it would be cool whatever they make hats off too easy trigger for making this game for us. Gen. Xers and those who can appreciate the game for what it is.

Yeah I tried to make a point of mentioning horizontal cause I know that wouldn’t be for everyone. Tbh it was the first thing I tried to do cause I’m use to using that as part of my strategy in this style of game! I can also say it absolutely works without it though just not the style they went for!

SwitchCorner I agree it doesn't need it. It actually seems better because you cant shoot up or diagonal, because it means you have to jump around more, which keeps thing interesting. You're forced to platform more because you cant run along the bottom of the screen shooting upwards.

Another Switch channel gave this 89% in a review at launch so I gave it a go. It is definitely fun, but I think your 8 is more fair a score :) it's a tad repetitive, even by shooter standards. Levels seem very short, though bosses are entertaining. But I would recommend it more at £10-15 maybe than the 20 I paid. It is better than some of the other shooters released recently though. :)

Yah, I got it and enjoyed playing it but it's not something I envision myself playing for much longer. Good fun and very stylish, but it's not quite Metal Slug :) I'd recommend it for a tenner though definitely!

It's more than 4 hours for me. Game's challenging and I keep dying a lot. 30 retries of a boss fight is normal. My first run gonna take around 7 hours. You have also three super cool protagonists to beat the game with. So that's 3 runs. Obviously every next run will be faster cause u know what to do. I'd say Huntdown offers 15 hours of gameplay.

Exactly replay value on difficulties will build upon it and with a game like this it’s very different for everyone based on skill level!

Yeah, I've completed the first zone (out of 4 it seems) in about an hour. I'm playing on easy mode and I'm still dying 3 times a level on average. It'll be a good 5-7 hour game for me I bet. It's not a game that be easily speedrun through either, pretty tough! :)
