But even if someone says this nickname because he/she is in love, I don't think it's anyone's business, so I can't understand Sarah's comment. As long as the person concerned doesn't say something against it, it also means that the person doesn't mind, which is why I think her comment was unnecessary (I don't mean that in a bad way).
