Former armament maintainer here, that long gun burst definitely killed your gun. At a minimum we'd have to take it out, guage check the barrels and probably replace each of them, x-ray the housing, and maybe keep some of the original gun to put back in. Your jet will be grounded for 4 days at most unless we got an extra gun. Cool kill tho, lol.

I can reccomend the F-5. Underpowered, under armed (only 2 old sidewinders), lowtech, no fly by wire, radar is shit, only very little chaff and flares. But so much fun to fly. And forces you to develope a feel for you speed, how hard you pull to not break off your wings, not to loose too much energy, and how to use your Mark I eyeballs, how to use countermeasures effectively, etc. Very hard to defeat modern planes, but a lot of fun and it makes you a better pilot. Once you get used to all that, you can switch to a more modern plane, bring in radar, BVR and so on after you got all the basics covered :)
@jfs3662 жыл бұрын
@@hernerweisenberg7052 I agree, it teaches you really good basics, specifically stick control because you can rip your wings off if you pull too hard but it’s far more forgiving than other planes. And navigation in that thing is so easy, the tacan is incredibly easy to use.

I would say that the flanker had a partial win. He made you use all your AMRAMs so you had to gun the AWACS. If the AWACS had bugged out at the beginning of the fight they might have made it to safety. Also the flanker could have bought enough time for other air assets to intercept you before you could take out the AWACS.
@jamison8842 жыл бұрын
That works both ways. The USAF has an abundance of jets, so it would be a rare engagement to start out with 1 vs. 2, to begin with, and then once contact is made, it would also be a rare event for the USAF to send fewer reinforcements (if the scenario called for it of course). The Davis-Monthan Air Force Boneyard in Tucson Arizona (where they have a detailed preservation process to place many operable jets and helicopters into long-term storage) represents of a larger air force than just about every country except for the top 10 or so worldwide. For example, 326 F-16s, 161 F-18s, and 174 F-15s. :)
@tanmayhaldar75652 жыл бұрын
@@jamison884 in the given scenario chosen by GS.... Only 1 flanker almost had his number..... If the second one wasn't lost to manoeuvre kill.... The scenario would have been lost. I don't think it has much meaning comparing entire air forces, rather the specific scenario chosen by GS. Thus it's a Partial win or as some put it moral victory for the flankers.
@jamison8842 жыл бұрын
@@tanmayhaldar7565 Oh I agree it's a partial/moral victory for the flankers, I was just responding to this specific part (below) to make the point that additional engagement time to call in reinforcements wouldn't necessarily be to the Flanker's benefit. It's not a big deal, either way, just a fun little BVR engagement. :) "Also the flanker could have bought enough time for other air assets to intercept you"

For reference: GS in an F-22 with normal A2A loadout (6x AIM120, 2x AIM9X) took out 7x F-15 EX. As in the review of Top Gun Maverick that I think I saw on Jell-O's youtube page (former F-14 pilot, IIRC), the quote is: "5th generation fighters are *comically* better." All the R-77 defending GS has to do? Stealth just says "yeahhhh, no need for that". Just sneak into the MAR, 1 missile apiece, then dispatch the AWACS, and that's that. The F-35 can probably do similar things, honestly. So long as it doesn't get into a merge situation, the F-35 should be about as effective as an F-22 so long as armaments last.

@GrowlingSidewinder2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, going Cold means to turn away from the bandit, to be hot is to be nose on, same for the bandit, if the bandit is hot on you means he's coming towards you. as for the F-15 its one of the greatest fighters ever built, a combat score of 104-0 in air to air combat, meaning no eagles have ever been lose in air to air combat in the world. That's a big statement and a testament to how good the aircraft is.

Hey GS, I ve been watching your every video for the last 2 years and I have my first question for you. How does your aircraft radar know when the enemy is only pinging you and trying to lock you vs. when you actually get locked and radars alert tone changes to a locked alert? Is there change in frequency of an enemy radar or what is the clue in tech terms for a radar to know it is getting locked? I know the reason why alert changes when the missile goes pitbull as its a different radar signal coming in fast but what is the reason of alert change between scanning and locking. Thank you so much. cheers from edmonton, alberta, canada
@GrowlingSidewinder2 жыл бұрын
hello there another fellow canadian. Thank you for watching so many of the videos goes a long way to supporting the channel. To answer your question when the aircraft is being locked and its trying to communicate that to the pilot its the RWR or Radar Warning Receiver which is doing it not the Radar. The RWR is responsible for detecting enemy radar signatures and displaying them to the pilot. It is also the RWR that is making the audible tones again trying to communicate with the pilot about the nature and severity of the threat. From my understanding the way it interprets this and understands that the aircraft is being locked is by the frequency of the radiation that it is detecting. When the Enemy radar is just scanning the radiation of his radar just passes over you and a low amount of it hits your aircraft the RWR uses this to show you the location of the radar emission. When he tries to lock you his radar focuses on you and shoots a bunch of radiation at you to try to lock you up the RWR picks up this increase of radiation and interprets it as a radar lock. (this is a pretty basic explanation of how the system works) I hope this answer your question.

See when your cranking (defending cold) after an ammram shot, does it not break the Lock from the aircraft, even though you have 60 Deg radar, it looks as if the radar won't send the missile so it using its own seeker, does this not make the missile less effective? I.e goes Pitbull earlier and RWR indication earlier on bogie?
@gliran12 жыл бұрын
