The reason why I and many others like Pitou is because she is the only Royal Guard to care about the King's more human, emotional side. Both Youpi and especially Pouf see Meruem as nothing more than an ideal king. They think that it Meruem's purpose to be the King and rule over the world. Pitou doesn't care about that. The only thing she cares about is the king's emotional side which is why she was willing to heal and protect Komugi. Had Meruem given the exact same order to protect Komugi to Pouf then pouf would have ignored it or twisted that order in some way to kill her. Pitou saw what mattered most to Meruem: his humanity.

She wasnt stringing him along or anything, she just didn't know who Gon was talking about until right then

I think she knew, and that she was stringing him along. Just like she tried to trick Gon into getting enough time to heal both Komugi and herself, before leaving. She would do whatever she had to. So she brought him there to stall for time, even though she knew, she could do nothing for Kite. If she had told him the truth immediately, she would've brought Komugi in danger. Yeah this is where differing ideologies come into play. Pitou doesn't side with Gon, feels no sympathy for him, and wants to kill him. She is just as justified in her beliefs as Gon is in his. "Bad" is relative, we sympathize with Gon and the Hunters because they are the main characters and they are the humans we can relate to. Pitou was born to be a royal guard and Gon and the Hunters not only want to kill her but kill everything she stands for. Pitou and the Ants are the villains but that doesn't mean that their motivations and actions have no reason behind them. Actually going all the way down the hall after believing Komugi to no longer be in enemy hands was a courtesy in and of itself. She could have turned right around and tried to kill Gon at that moment or when they got to Kite she could have lied, pretended to operate on him, and then kill Gon. She didn't have to be honest and the fact that she was is a sign of respect.

You cant call it remorse at all. Remorse would indicate regret which would make no sense for pitou. If pitou could rewind time and the king told her to torture and kill kite 1000 times over she would not hesitate for a second and consider any other feelings but the king. It's hard to really say Pitou is "evil" when really they're just a loyal ant to their King, and the reason they plan to kill Gon is because they consider the invading humans as enemies of their King, and as a Royal Guard, that's their purpose for being alive, to protect their King. This is what makes Hunter X Hunter so compelling, there's very little black and white here. Even Pouf is hard to consider really "evil" when he's not doing the things he does for himself, he's not some Jafar-like figure where he works for the King but plans to usurp them later on and take the power for themself, but rather the things he does he does for the King (or what he believes to be for the benefit of the King). His fear is that the King would stray away from his purpose in life, which is to rule all other living beings, and Komugi's influence on the King is proving his fears to be very real and very legitimate. It's ok to be mad, but it's worth keeping in mind too that these are, at the end of the day, just animals, beasts influenced heavily by their animalistic instincts of survival, with a bit of human emotion and reasoning and self-reflection thrown in for good measure.

The difference between the ants and, say, Nazi soldiers, is the Nazis were human beings who had lived long lives and were capable of completely free thought. They knew exactly what they were doing and what atrocities they were committing. The Chimera ants, like I said, are just beasts, and only begin to become more "human" after some time passes and they're able to recall their past human lives and experiences. As Ants, they are inherently compelled to serve the Queen and eventually the King, because that's just how they're coded. That is their natural instinct. It's literally in their blood and DNA. The Royal Guard in particular are EXTREMELY loyal to the King and look up to him as if he were their God. Remember when Pitou cries after the King practically begs her to save Komugi? Imagine the one person/being whom you love and respect and look up to more than anyone or any thing else in the entire world, the person who is your very reason for BEING, relied upon you to help them, genuinely putting their faith in you. Or just look at all that Pouf is doing, as ive explained. He's going through an AWFUL lot of trouble to make sure the King can live up to his fullest potential, because he loves him, with every cell and fiber of his being. He genuinely wants the best for his King, and he believes "the best" to be the King fulfilling his purpose of becoming the ruler of all others. Point is, their loyalty goes much, much deeper than, say, the loyalty of the nazis to hitler. No one was born a nazi.

The fact of the matter is Pitou changed after she saw how Meruem reacted to Komugi getting hurt, she was so moved by what happened that she even cried. She was willing to break herself for a chance to heal Komugi and save her from Gon. She has plenty of time to attack Gon while they were in the hallway and when he was on the floor crying with his defenses broken, she didnt need her other arm for that. She even said she was sorry, there was no need for her to say anything, she couldve just attacked him, i believe she was truly sorry at that point.

Great reaction, and I understand being very emotional at this part of the story, but I think you need to think a bit more flexibly. See things from Pitou's perspective and realize that she stopped being the somewhat evil, "play with her prey" cat the moment she cried when she saw Meruem begging her for help. She really changed, and she is capable of caring and empathy. That's why she's protecting Meruem - not out of duty, but out of love. You're totally missing the point if you think Pitou is pure evil - she genuinely feels sorry for Gon. But she views him as a threat to her King, so he has to be dealt with. There's no evil intent or malice or anything. She's just protecting a loved one.

In my opinion, watching first the Episode 1 of 1999's HxH(or at the very least watching the whole 1st version of HxH); connects me to the emotion that Gon had in this 130ep. Honestly, I don't understand why the director of 2011's HxH didn't include Kite as an introduction to Gon's life from the very 1st episode! Manga HxH does have Kite in it from the very first of its page! Meaning, Kite is very relevant to the MC since he was featured from the very first page drawn by Togashi himself!!
@hhenryssilvio20054 жыл бұрын
That was the worst decision from that director, a thing that doesn't make sense at all. 🤷♂️
@WhatIsNature4 жыл бұрын
@@hhenryssilvio2005 Actually that decision didn't happen in a vacuum. They wanted to include Kite, but when they started the 2011 adaptation, Chimera Ant Arc was unfinished and going through many long hiatuses. Basically they didn't realize that they'd be able to adapt it, and thus the inclusion of Kite wasn't significant, being that his character background really only plays a role in CAA. They wanted to focus on variables that explicitly mattered for the first several arcs that they dedicated to remake, and Kite really only matters in the big picture when you account for CAA. Same reason Skull Night, Moonchild, etc. weren't included in the original adaptation of Berserk. Their roles wouldn't have shared the significance that they do in the manga as a whole, when placed in the vacuum of the Golden Age. Adapting manga is expensive and you're limited to what you have to adapt. When artists know they're gonna do a more complete adaptation of a work, they make sure to include as much as they can. But they financially have to leave some stuff out if they're only adapting part of a story, and what gets left out are the parts that don't have major roles in the particular adaptation. Unfortunately this is why Kite's debut was omitted from '11. But there was a reason and it does make sense. If they had an unlimited budget with no timeline, I'm sure Kite would have been included even if they never adapted CAA.

@@WhatIsNature I don't agree with the part: "the inclusion of Kite wasn't significant" it really was, because is thanks to kite that gon learned his father was still alive and even got motivated to become a hunter, again thanks to Kite, not knowing they would be able to adapt the CAA is not an excuse, the 99's version did it perfectly despite not even reach the greed island arc. furthemore Kite's death would had bigger impact to the viewer for being attached to a classic character rather than a "newcomer" like tsunade said in her comment ☝️

From Pitou's perspective, Pitou withheld Kite's death status because s/he needed Gon as far away from Komugi as possible. if she told Kite was dead right from the beginning at the castle with blacka aura Gon, Killua, and Palm.. she would have lost her bargaining chip. For all she knew, they could easily kill Komugi right then and there. Gon even explicitly threatened Komugi's life. And even back then she knew Gon was a threat. She even likened Gon's rage to the King's. So. For her, the best strategy was to get Gon as far away from Komugi as much as possible. Hence, agreeing to go with Gon to Kite's location. And only revealing that Kite is dead when they are far from Komugi.

I think Pitou is a good ant, but her duty comes over everything. She has to go against "her own moral" to do her job. She said sorry to Gon, she was genuinely sorry seeing this happen to Gon, though in the end, they are threatening to kill the king, so she has to chivalrously uphold her duty.

Pitou clearly felt sympathy for Gon. You could see it on her face and hear it in her voice. You must be blind to not realize that. Gon in that situation reminded her of herself and Komugi. Gon had someone who needed healing and he was desperate. So she STILL wanted to heal that someone for him. She was honest with him and apologized even though Gon was threatening her and Komugi before. What else should she do? Give him some headpats and comfort him even though it was the hunters (including Kite) who attacked their home? It seems she was even reluctant to attack him. She could have done it right after Pouf told her that Komugi is safe or while Gon was is this pitiful state.

I side with you on it being unfair to genuinely react under certain expectations. I also side with you that your audience misunderstand your jokes and what-not; and for the record I wasn't bothered by the eagle scene - I enjoyed seeing you have a good time with the laughter. But I also understand why others got offended for the eagle scene in particular, and I don't think that particular instance was a "misunderstanding". It's more that it was a badly timed joke/laughter (like laughing at the wrong time) on your part. I didn't mind it, but I think others are at least partially justified for being annoyed because that moment was extra important to them.

I understand what you're saying about Pitou "hiding the truth" so more clarifications: If Pitou would have said to Gon that Kite was already dead, in the palace he would have either not believed her because he doesn't have a proof yet in front of his eyes or he would have jumped and killed Komugi out of despair or rage. Thus making him realize with a proof then going back to the palace where Komugi was an hostage to trade her would have been the best logical choice because no one is hurt and no one is dead and no one would have reasons to attack... But the other best choice is also that Pitou gets the more direct threat to Komugi far away from the palace so that she could kill him cuz the others hunters won't kill her, they would have done so if they wanted when she was healing her while being powerless. So all in all either way it was the best & logical choices for Pitou with both better outcomes for her, if you think about it. Have a nice day.

You're wrong on all accounts. She has no idea who "kite" is. She killed a hunter with white hair. That's all she knew. She never cared to remember the faces of any human, didn't know his name, or remember Gon, all she knew was that he was a threat to Komugi so she went along.
@Kyrrua_4 жыл бұрын
@@RexDeorumYT Its funny because the fact why she has no idea who kite is, can also be the main reason why she hid the truth for so long so that she could gain time for Komugi. In fact I wanted to also say it but the text would hav been too long, so thank you LOL ! Nice try though. :) We can also argue that if she didn't know who Kite was she would have just told "huh, I'm sorry but dunno who are talking about so why would I come allong ?" but she didn't and the result would have been Gon denying her or jumping on Komugi. Abi & Imon were discussing about why she hid the truth and the possible reasons for it, whereas the detail about not knowing kite's identity is NEVER directly explain. You can't reproach them to not know if Pitou knew kite's identity when its not what they are talking about and when its never said in the mangas or anime, but you can say that it could be a reason. And it's a togashi goal not to make characters that are only bad or good and I really think that no hunter x hunter character is like that except maybe Leorio. Pitou has come pretty far as a creature who's developing a conscious, so I do think that they ARE genuinely sorry for what they did, but they're still standing by the decision they made to make sure Gon's teeth can't get to Meruem's neck. Unfortunately, Pitou is still only like a couple months old at MOST, so they're still developing the empathy skills truly needed to understand Gon's pain. They're definitely closer than they were, but not close enough really
@fawwazfarid54584 жыл бұрын
Pitou is an excellent character as she does somewhat go through minor developments e.g her crying seeing Meruem and Komugi and here where she says sorry to Gon. If Gon was not so aggressive and hellbent on revenge and did not act the way he did e.g threatening to kill Komugi and instead approached the situation calmly and rationally (which is very unlikely) like how Zeno and Netero approached it then Pitou might have had more development in further understanding humans and gaining further empathy like how Meruem and Youpi did at some point. Still a great character nonetheless, pretty much like the Phantom Troupe in that these characters may be 'evil' because they go against our protagonists and kill people, but they form a very strong bond of comradery and companionship within their group and will do anything to protect their own. In the end of the day it's all about perspective and survival and that's where HxH excels at in it's characterisation, most characters are just looking out for themselves and their group in order to survive in the world. BTW I'm not bothered by Abbie or Imon's reaction cause it is their first time watching the series, heck when I watched this episode for the first time I too had similar thoughts. It was only after multiple re-watches and reading so much reviews on HxH did I finally grasp on the themes and ideas that Togashi was trying to convey.
@Sweet_Venom00274 жыл бұрын
There isn't really a clear cut line between good and evil here. Pitou was guarding the ants territory while the queen was getting ready to give birth and Gon, Killua and Kite went there to exterminate them all, looking at it that way their attack on kite was out of defense. Everything in this arc is mostly about survival and protecting the ones that ya care about. I don't think Pouf ever got Kite's name so it probably didn't know who Gon was talking about, or if it did then what good would it do to reveal that it was hopeless? The happy go lucky kid we knew from the beginning of this series has changed, would the sweet Gon we knew have murdered an already dying woman who had done nothing to him just to spite his enemy? He once condemned the phantom troupe for wonton murder!!
@freezer72554 жыл бұрын
Was it also necessary to use Kite's corpse as a puppet? Come on, you can't blame Gon for being angry as hell with a being who has done all this harm to a person he love, he is simply human, even Pouf and Youpi were willing to exterminate everyone after seeing the king's corpse, then this thing to say that humans are worse than ants honestly I never liked. It's obvious that not all humans are good and that not all the ants are bad but one cannot generalize
@Sweet_Venom00274 жыл бұрын
@@freezer7255 Yes, Pitou initially did it to amuse itself by fighting a strong opponent but then used Kie's corpse puppet to give the other ants an idea of how to fight humans that could actually defend themselves. True Gon is only human, but so are the ants. The complex emotions, motivations and actions that they demonstrate is proof that they share humanity with our "protagonists", both sides are trying to survive and establish a dominance. The ants haven't really had much exposure or experience to the concept of heavy warfare like humans have had centuries to practice, neither one is "worse" one side has had far more practice at genocide though.
@freezer72554 жыл бұрын
@@Sweet_Venom0027 Yes, but it bothers me that you blame Gon for not having pity on Pitou, he simply treated Pitou in the brutal way he treated Kite and surely if Gon would have done the same things to Meruem, Pitou would have no pity on him even though had acquired humanity because at that moment the emotions and the anger completely take over the mind
@Sweet_Venom00274 жыл бұрын
@@freezer7255 my beef with Gon is that he's betraying everything he was before. Just last arc he was totally willing to give up an arm to best Genthru a mass murdering sociopath who was totally gonna end his life, who he let live btw. During the Yorknew City Arc he chewed out the troupe for feeling no remorse for killing uninvolved people. I understand that he's mad and sad about what happened to Kite but he of all people should know that the path they have all chosen is one where death is a very real probability. It'd be different if it were a random occurrence but Kite knew what he was doing and had an idea what the danger might be, to be mad that Kite fell in a battle he himself willingly entered is just... childish. Yeah I know, but at this point neither Gon or Killua are really "kids" anymore. They've done so much, overcome so much and faced death way too many times to have the luxury of innocence anymore.

@@Sweet_Venom0027 were you annoyed at killua for breaking down in front of palm, allowing his "dam to burst" in the heat of battle? Whether we hype it up or not they will still feel the hype. I honestly doesn't matter.
@WhatIsNature4 жыл бұрын
@@SilverFang95 You're diminishing the qualitative value and extent of natural hype that exists outside the vacuum of anticipation. You can feel free to argue that it may not matter significantly (because such significance is subjective), but it does literally matter. Imon and Abi wouldn't have dedicated the entire first part of this video to complaining about it if it honestly didn't make a lick of difference, because there wouldn't be anything to complain about. But there is, and they did. It's surprise versus expectation. It's the difference between a raw reaction and a tipped reaction. You're right that knowing a certain episode is hyped doesn't mean you won't be surprised by what happens. But you're wrong to imply that this doesn't taint that expectation of surprise. That's the difference. In knowing something is gonna happen because fans who've seen it have told you, versus knowing something is gonna happen by naturally picking up on the plot and its pacing. It's the difference in *realizing* that crazy shit is going as the episode unravels, rather than *identifying* that crazy shit is happening due to knowing in advance that something on its level was definitely gonna happen. For example, here's the sentiment to a reaction for something you have no prior knowledge to: "Hey, what's this? What's happening right now? Why does this feel so significant? Holy shit, something crazy is going down, wow!" Compare that to a reaction in where you're anticipating something significant. "Hey, when is the thing supposed to happen that everyone is so crazy over? Nothing crazy has happened, so I guess I have to wait a bit longer for it to happen... Oh here we go, now this must be it, this must be what everyone was talking about, let's see what it is!" I'll never forget my surprise at 131 having no idea it was a hyped episode. My reaction was "wtf is this? holy shit where did this even come from?" rather than "oh this is what people were talking about, wow." You don't even have to take my word for this. There are plenty of reactions to 131 for both users who were blind, and users who admitted to being spoiled. If you contrast such videos, you'll see that the difference is quite overt. The former reactors gave genuine reactions that rivaled my own, and the latter reactors gave really lackluster reactions that clearly hinged on their knowledge and took out the "oomph" of total shock. In psychology, this is a very well known concept known as "priming," and even if the effects are minimal, they still affect you, even if just subconsciously. So a person can feel as if their prior knowledge had no effect on their behavior, but reality indicates that it does to some extent. Again, you can argue the extent isn't significant, but you can't argue such extent doesn't exist. This is just basic psychology of how expectations alter our reactions, no matter how trivial the subject matter is.
