yes, but not entirelly, it's done the same way the 3 cripple got their nen, but since those ant have crazy base constitution, they didn't got cripple by it, so technicly it's just like Gon and and Kirua, except you don't need to be carefull to do it.

Manga spoilers are obviously a definite no-go, but anime spoilers? I don't really mind because most of the people who are watching a reaction have already seen the show, and the minority that haven't should know not to look.

It has been explained before that you can awaken to nen by getting hit a nen attack, they fought two humans on the fighting tower arc that survived to this and so got badly injured by surviving the blow (the wheelchair guy and the one missing an arm with a mask if i remember correctly)
