Hunter X Hunter: Heavens Arena Arc Analysis | TOURNAMENT OF PROGRESSION

The third video in my Hunter X Hunter series analysis covers the Heavens Arena arc. This arc is one of my favourites within the series, not only do we get our protagonists undergoing progression we are also introduced to a fascinating new concept. The introduction of Nen into the world of Hunter X Hunter changes everything entirely, as we are propelled into a new world of fighting mechanics, where strategy trumps strength. In this video I go through all of the training that Gon and Killua undergo, and how they learn Nen in order to participate in battles on the higher floors in Heavens Arena. As well as this I go through the reintroduction of Hisoka into the story, and what role he plays in the progression of Gon and Killua. Let's find out why the Heavens Arena arc from Hunter X Hunter is one of the best training and Tournament and Training arcs in shonen history,

@@watchforever1724 yeah I just love how he responds to Wing in the anime when asked if he’s formulated a strategy for the rematch. He pantomimes his fishing rod and Wing gives him a smirk like “yeah this should be good.” I probably overhype it more than it’s meant to be, but for me it’s all about what a character doesn’t say. So that small little detail of Gon answering “I’m gonna use this-“ then motions holding a rod and reel, that means everything to me. One of my favorite moments in all anime tbh. It’s just a very unexpected moment that’s hype to me. I get down on that kind of thing. The only thing that could top that, is if we returned to Gon’s current story and find out he’s back using a rod and reel in combat. Alternatively, show us Ging’s prowess with the old rod and reel.

My favorite arc is the next one, York New City arc. I enjoy it even more than the Chimera Ant arc which i understand is most peoples favorite arc. But the whole Organized Crime Super Heist where we get to see Gon And Killuah get in way over their heads is right up my alley.

Also like to point out the emphasis of Gap between fighters. Hisoka and Gon for example. Currently NO MATTER WHAT GON COULD THINK OF OR DO, it would not have mattered. So people who go on and on about Hxh Battles being about strategy and somehow not considering the fighters overall capabilities, till this day annoys me. Strategy will only get you so far and can be reduced to mere parlor tricks against a beast of an enemy.

I think it is worth noticing the fact that it Wing had a very young student aside from Gon and Killua. I mean, it is literally mentioned that Nen use/ learning is like a secret follow up test (or some sort) for successful Hunter applicants. Wing, allowing himself to teach that boy (Zushi) should be questioned. I mean, as far as I can't remember, Zushi never passed the Hunter exam (yet), therefore, for an authorized (by the hunter association) person to teach nen; Wing should not be just randomly teaching some boy about NEN ESPECIALLY considering he is TOOOOO YOUNG. Unless he is his son or special friend, he should have never used his authority and knowledge to teach Zushi nen.

Nen is the hidden condition to be considered a true hunter, however we know for a fact that hunters aren't the only ones that knows it All the fighters and staff of the heavens arena, various criminals(including the spiders) and several other people, whether good, bad, or in between have knowledge of nens, and most are not hunters The reason hunter are required to learn nen is that their world is dangerous enough that it is a skill necessary to survive in the job they do, as well as more generally being an useful skill in genral The reason nen isn't widely known is -Well intentioned or neutral intentioned people either don't care or don't want to pass on the knowledge to potential bad people -Bad intentioned people wouldn't give away a skill that give them a net advantage over anyone who doesn't have it Teaching Zushi isn't a problem, both because he does so gradually, Zushi is not a bad child, and as his mentor he follows pretty closely on Zushi development, including his morality and on him not going over his head(he stops zushi from trying to use ren on kirua both because it's unfair to use on people who don't know it, and also because even if he used Ren, Zushi cannot defeat kirua, so he stopped both from getting hurt uselessly

Plus, if you add in togashi's story-telling and world building, imo it have a really good shot becoming the best shonen of all time. If only togashi isn't lazy af.
