Sometimes you misquote a job but the most important thing is keep the client trust by being transparent with the work it takes and extent of the damage etc. You did all that and deserve to be paid what it's worth. Good job and excellent learning opportunity to be confident in quoting future jobs like this.

I haven't started my detail business because I am not confident. I've been detailing my own cars for years before it became a trend. But honestly after watching hunter for a while now I know I can do it. Some of these things are common sense you can't do 6 paint corrections in one day. Test spots are your best friend in these types of situations, you should never give a price if you don't know the condition of the vehicle. Thank you, hunter, for giving me the confidence. if guys like you are out here killing it I know I can too.

Just start my man!! It’s worth it if this is your passion! I’ve been doing this since 2009 and after a long day of work - I still make time to detail my own car! Like anything, you’ll get better with time & experimenting. Trial n error. I’m at the point where I can walk on a job and I can tell exactly how long it’s gonna take by looking at the carpet material, the level of dirt on the paint , etc. detailing is intensive labor but the money is excellent .. six figures + I make a year. Lot of work but worth it!

Hey Hunter, I deal with this quite a bit. Go to Walmart and get Goof Off the professional strength remover in a yellow bottle. Runs around $7. Just don't use it on black trim. Use steam for that. You would have been done in less than 30 minutes with each car, aside from polishing it of course.

When dealing with overspray you can use paint thinner on the body (do not use it on the trim or any plastics as it will damage them and leave them looking faded) this is the easiest method to tackle overspray. If you need to remove paint or overspray from plastic and trim I suggest you use Solvent as this will remove the overspray without damaging the trim/plastic. Just a tip I’ve learned :)

Here in Europe we use Koch chemie eulex for paint overspray. Much better since I don’t have to clay. Spray it on let it sit for few minutes and you wipe the overspray right off. Because when you clay you introduce clay marring.

I'm pretty sure you've already knocked this out but one word of advice I would offer is this: Find a spot that's a pretty good representation of the damage for each individual car, from there start with the least aggressive method to remove it and get a good result and then take notes about it and what worked best for each one and then work at em in your preferred order. I like to knock out the most challenging thing first and work backwards so my job gets easier as I get tired. One method is not going to work out on all the cars. Even if they're all facing the same contamination as a group or the overspray in this case came from the same source the surface that it's landing on and bonding to has differing characteristics and there are just environmental differences on a small scale that will impact it. The biggest consideration in overspray or heavy contamination in my opinion is how long or strongly is it bonded, and what is the paint underneath like? The mission is always to remove it while doing the least harm possible resulting in the least amount of additional work for you to bring that surface back to the level it was at before the incident. Now if you take that and apply it to this scenario, with a place I could dealership or rental company dealing with high volumes of cars, It's very likely these had already had a pre-sale detail That they were okay with, so I wouldn't be looking for them to be very interested in upsells or anything like that because they just want to get the cars back to the acceptable level that it was at before in most cases. That leaves you with some options here, and I would always just try to present them to the customer to get to know their preferences better and ideally build a better long-term relationship. I'd say depending on how extensive the overspray is (is the vehicle something you can somewhat spot treat for example), I would present the scenario as: "okay do you want me to just address the overspray and contamination issues and get the vehicle back to the level it was previously, or do you want me to address the overspray removal and then do something like a paint enhancement on all the vehicles afterwards just to bring them up to a uniform and hopefully overall improved appearance as a group rather than just getting them back to presentable? I would also offer the caveat that depending on all the factors and what you find out when you get in there, there is every chance that you may end up having to do a full two step cut on some of the vehicles, or some spots at least. In regards to that last part I would tell the customer that I can work on our agreed on approach and then from there call them if anything crazy really pops up to see how they want to deal with it. Honestly if it's high volume, I would do my test spots so I have a hopefully somewhat accurate view of what the overall project is going to be on every car as some will be harder and some will be easier, and then just put together a package consisting of overspray removal, and a one step enhancement. At minimum you're going to be doing a lot of spot polishing anyway so it makes more sense to try and lump it all together and present it as you giving the customer somewhat of a package deal to help him out and get the result you feel is representative of your work. Then when you're actually doing the work look for any spots or any little things you can do to go above and beyond that typically wouldn't be included but aren't really costing you any extra time or effort, and when you present the final results and go over them with the client you have lots of stuff to point out to them that you gave them for "free" and the cars will look more than presentable they'll stand out because of those little touches. Depending on volume it's important to look at building a foundation or a stronger relationship with the customer as the upsell opportunity because you're hopefully creating consistent easy work for yourself in the future. I know in this case it's the painting company that hired you but assuming they do a lot of painting you May be able to leverage yourself into a position of who they turn to or finish work or even doing quick interiors or one steps before they present a vehicle back to the client for example.

Citrol... wax (maybe a quick AIO).. done. They're paying dearly for your inexperience. You gotta make your money but they're paying you for the results not hourly. If you don't know how to do the work efficiently, they shouldn't foot that bill. You "growing together" is really 2 things. 1. You giving inexperienced people inaccurate info that they're going to use to damage their own, or another's vehicle. 2. You asking experienced people to tell you how to operate a detailing business. You pander for how-to's, pricing, service, training, chemical recommendations, etc. I liked your channel originally because you were asking questions and were upfront about being green, but know you're constantly saying something or doing something that's just flat out wrong in most videos.

I assumed it would be an easy job however it turned out to take me two whole days. The only way I could get it off was using a vinegar/alcohol mixture and degreaser to soften it up and chipping it off with a plastic razor. It came out really good and I got paid $400.

I do over spray removal for a company that does polyurethane spray for roofs. The wind grabs it and hits cars sometimes. Only thing that works for that is letting the car sit in the sun for about a month and then clay barring it. UV rays break it down. When you get in to this type of work, you need to unfortunately get out of the detailing mind set. The client does not want to fix the swirl marks on the persons car. If swirls were there when you showed up, no need to remove them even after clay barring. They simply just want you to remove the overspray. I tell my overspray clients the cause and effect. I Say I need to go aggressive and that will leave imperfections behind that can be fixed with a polish but that will cost more. We settled on if the car is marred and swirled before I start working, don't worry about polishing. If it's perfect paint before I start working, polish it. This communication and giving him options has allowed us to do business with each other for a long time now.

If heavy clay bars are used, most of the time the vehicles will get scratched up pretty bad. Which will require a correction right after. If overspray use a solvent based type chemical to remove it the over spray. Let the chemicals work!! Make sure not to spray it on black pieces( rubber or plastic) it will fade.

In my experience the mit clay does not work as nearly good as the actual clay bar for removing over spray.

This was supposed to be an easy job bro especially for 350 for each car. You need to invest in yourself as well and start taking classes to shape that detailer mentality so you can become more efficient and more knowledgeable on the job that is provided. Keep it up bro you're diving in head first, you're doing well for a beginner detailer

For everyone saying body shop, it was not a body shop. Think about it body shops use a booth. Context clues show this was most likely a commercial painting company painting the exterior of a building on a windy day, which would cause the paint to carry over that brick wall 🤦🏼‍♂️. It happens all the time.

You have to learn how to measure twice and cut once in this business. You right when you said what's the point in having a shop if you aint using it. Have them drop the cars off at your shop. No UBER needed.

Hunter! Good tip for windows that need that razor blade. Use Steel Wool grade #0000! Doesnt scratch the window but is hard enough to remove any imperfections! Must be grade #0000!

Mechanical decon works well but I have found some times that using some chemicals like goofoff will help take some spray paints off and they have a product they is called over spray eliminator it works great I have used it on some cars that got spray painted on and it took it off.

Big companies like that make BANK so 3000$ instead of the vehicle owners suing or complaining can get that company in BIG trouble for over spray like that so 3000$ isn’t too big of a problem for a company making a lot of money lol
