Helpful Fatalis hints for the future! As you learned in this video, Clutching onto his body during the spinning flame breath keeps you safe; the same is actually true of the downward fire vomit. During phase 3, when he does his 3 super-charged fireballs, only the 1st one is too dangerous to stay near him for; the other 2 super-charged fireballs are completely safe so long as you hug his crotch area.

Helpful tip 2! Don't use the Ghillie Mantle, bring Smoke Bombs and materials to craft more of them. Use it while on the Roaming Ballista, and use it to get him to drop down to the ground while he's flying. You can even use it to create temporary breaks to buff yourself, sharpen, etc., or just get in a lot of free damage.
