One thing I am a big fan of older books is the time capsule aspect of it. Comic characters, storytelling, ads, letter pages of a snapshot in time.

Great video as always Mike. I saw you look at the Green Lantern and was "wow, that's an awesome cover". The Web of Spider-man story made me chuckle. I've bought and sold that book several times and I knew the story behind it being a key. How you explained it though, spot on - kind of, but not really the first appearance of Venom. 😆

You "forgot some food", and "fate intervened". Likely story. 😉 That Nightcrawler cover is awesome... almost heartbreaking? For me, he's one of those characters that can appear dark and scary, and yet, instead of feeling fearful of him, you feel empathy. I guess I can attribute that to Alan Cumming's excellent portrayal of him in the films; he gave him so much heart.

I’ve been to Yellow Bear. I got some nice old DC Alex Ross books and they were in great condition. I keep forgetting to go back there. Those are the type of shops l look for because l always find good books.

I do have that Teen Titans issue as well! I’ve always liked those National campaign promos. I recently picked up a nice copy of the Spider-Man/Power Pack child abuse issues from the 80’s

That Teen Titans comic was actually made part of the official canon of DC. They introduced That teen hero called Protector into the main series, Dick even trained him for a while. Many years later, Tom King used him, for his infamous Heroes in Crisis, where we learn that while the character main thing was fight drugs, he was actually secretly a junkie himself. Of course fans HATED it.

I always buy those public service/public information comics too when I find them, they cover such a range of topics from anti-Communist propaganda in the 1950s to fire safety in the forests with Smokey The Bear (I think Gold Key issued that one in the 1970s). The Wheedon/Cassaday X-Men series is really enjoyable, definitely worth tracking down all the issues. Marvels is a great miniseries and should be in every fan's collection.

Davie Michelinie wrote about this back in the day in the letter pages of Wizard Magazine. The person who pushed Peter Parker in Web # 18 was supposed to be Venom from the very beginning,. The key is that the pusher didn't set off his Spidey Sense, which would later be revealed to be one of Venom's powers. The unseen person would did this a couple more time in other Spider-Man series so that the readers would pick up on the mystery and wonder who this person was, and then then do the big reveal when Venom debuted officially. The reason he never tied up the loose ends in ASM # 300 was because of what you noticed - Michelinie had originally intended for Venom to be the female with a grudge. When Michelinie jumped from Web to Amazing he took the idea with him, but editor Jim Salicrup didn't think fans would accept the idea of a female throwing Spider-Man through walls and told him to make Venom male. Because of the female hands he couldn't exactly say it was Brock at the time, but then when Venom started blowing up in popularity Michelinie thought that fans were giving Todd MacFarlane too much credit for Venom's creation. To give himself more credit, he officially made Venom as the pusher canon in ASM # 388 to show that he had the idea for Venom long before MacFarlane was even drawing ASM. More info than you probably wanted, but point being the reveal in ASM # 388 was not a retcon. It was Micheline going back to his original intention...and possibly being a glory hog. ; )

I remember the Alex Ross Marvels books from the 90s. I was able to grab a couple of them (they had an acetate cover didnt they?) at the Hubbardston Flea Market back then but yea they were definitely pricier and for some reason I felt they were geared to an older reader because of the art lol.
