"To Have And Have Not" (1944) is amazing. Love that Hawks picture. Perfect pairing of Bogart & Bacall, their first as well. It's a loose take on Hemingway. There's another film a noir from director Michael Curtiz called "The Breaking Point" (1950) that is closer to Hemingway's work. Both classics in their own right.

Yor is cheesy, cheap, fun and has Corinne Clery. It is basically and italian movie with cavemen, dinosaurs and extraterrestrials. I found it once on VHS and the second half had no image. Many years later got it on DVD and now I have on Blu-ray. It's a guilty pleasure but if it has science fiction and or dinosaurs I keep them in my collection no matter what. Greetings from Sweden!

Love To Have and Have Not! It’s a big Casablanca knockoff that’s not as perfect, but still really good. It’s worth it just to see B&B falling in love with eachother every moment they’re on screen. I go to a 2nd and Charles when I visit my family in South Carolina along with Mr K’s. 2nd and Charles is always overwhelming because they have so much and they seemingly put no effort into organizing anything. To Have and Have Not was made after a conversation Hemingway and Hawks had during a hunting trip. Basically Hemingway and Hawks agreed it was his worst novel and Hemingway then said no one could make a movie out of it and Hawks took the challenge.

On "Public Enemies" it's interesting the place John Dillinger has in general crime movies. There's a number of films either about him or featuring him, of course a number of true crime docu-drama stuff, and that line in Reservoir Dogs about being "deader than Dillinger" which is neat considering Lawrence Tierney (who played Joe Cabot) played Dillinger in the first Dillinger movie. But more than that, Dillinger influenced Bogart's character in "High Sierra." The film "Public Enemies" I don't recall much, but Dillinger makes for interesting pictures.

@playedout148 makes sense, although I've only seen 2 Mann movies. "Heat" and "Public Enemies". He had seen "Manhattan Melodrama" by Woodbridge Strong Van Dyke. Michael Mann that's a name, but Woodbridge Strong Van Dyke that's something else.

I've seen Yor. It's almost so bad it's good. Maybe worth watching with friends to poke fun at it. Actor Reb Brown, who plays Yor, has been in some really bad movies: Space Mutiny, Yor, Howling II and the made for TV Captain America movies from 1979. And I met him at a convention in Pittsburgh, PA a few years ago. Nice guy who is aware of the poor quality of most of his films but he has fun talking about them.

Yea, like my VHS copy of ETN, Extra Teresterial Nasty, can't give it away, it always boomerang back. So it's in a box with lots of other VHS stuff. At one point me and the late wife had more than 800 VHS movies. Plus 100's more of taped stuff from TV to keep. Those were the days. Be safe
