This is it! This is the very first Harley-Davidson my dad bought brand new back in 1978. I will have this bike one day and ride it just like my dear old dad! Maybe I'll jump on it leave my old lady and my kids move to somewhere in Arizona start doing coke and selling weed! Sounds like a plan!

I bought an all original '77 FXS about 10 years ago, original paint. Tank looks really good, fenders look barn find. Has the correct exhaust. I was going to restore it keeping the fenders off the bike, using reproductions instead. I wanted one new when they first came available in '77. Couldn't quite afford it. My boss shows up one day on one he just "happened to notice" at the Denver dealership. I thought I'd have to kill him to get that bike. I let him live, and now I've got this one instead.

all Shovel FXS models came with factory kick and electric start. The FXS came out in mid year 1977 and was made until 1982. However, the FXS continued as a belt drive 1983 and 1984 and essentially merged with the FXB Sturgis those years as the 1983 and 84 models had a rear belt drive. The FXB Sturgis was introduced in 1980 and was made three years, 80-82. This was HD;s 1st belt drive model and had twin belt drives. The kicker was always optional as an accessory in the hovel years.

Dam nice bike. Sounds really good too.

dam typoes, I meant *Shovel. The kick start was lost due to HD coming out with the 5 speed. The 5 speed was introduced on the FLT in 1980, which was also HD's 1st rubber mounted motor. The last 4 speed was made only the 1st half of 1986 on the FXWG and FXEF models which said models were continued from the Shovel line up but 1985 and 86 production saw a new 4 speed frame and EVO motor. the frame had to be modified from the earlier frames to fit the EVO motor which is taller.

Love that bike!!... Would love to see you do a video talking about the evo engine. Maybe talk about when it came out, how long it lasted, why it was such a great motor, ..etc. ...

3:30 Over 300K on a Harley! That's pretty impressive. The first new bike I ever bought was a 1978 HD FXS Lowrider.

standard FX (any model) muffler 1977-79. Optional 1980-84. EPA caused this change.

The Ham Can air filter cover did not get on the FXS untill 1979. 1978 should have the oval "sportster like" air filter cover. Nice bike nonetheless!!
@HuntingHarleys10 жыл бұрын
yes and no. 1977 FXS had one filter, early 1978 had another. These black FXS's were end of year production and they took a ham can like air canister which is different then the ham can of the 79, which is again different then 1981 which is different from 1982 / 83 and 84 is different again. Ham Cans are not the same. Glad you enjoyed the vid!

I WOULD NEVER BUY A HARLEY MADE BY AMF JUST MY 2 CENTS
@northerniltree6 жыл бұрын
AMF produced some cool stuff. They weren't that reliable, but if you grew up in the '70's like I did, that was what you had. It helped to be mechanically inclined, and have strong legs for pushing. It builds character.

You’re 2 cent’s ain’t worth one cent homie , because you don’t know what you’re talking about .
