Watching this video enraged me a little. Hahah just kidding. Here’s a few things wrong with your info 1. That’s not a choke it’s an enricher and should never be ridden with it on. It’s only for starting the bike. 2. Yes it is a shovel head like you first said not a panhead. 3. Hahaha It’s definitely NOT a rigid. 4. What you’re saying about the transmission is wrong. I️ think what you meant was when the fxr came out in the 1982 the big twin was the shovelhead. In 1984 1/2 Harley released the Evo. So you mean it’s rarer because the FXR was only a Shovelhead for 2 1/2 years but it had a 5 Speed from 82-94 5. Even the best bone stock shovel FXR is only worth about $6K to 10K max. An loaded FXRT or FXRP will sometimes bring those numbers

Why does harley put the word "choke" on it then....correct me if im wrong enrichers are on efi engines to get them upto operating temperature quicker. Kind of like how efi cars have closed and open loop to get the cold engine upto temp quicker
@mrpoizun2 ай бұрын
@@tommys2979 It's an enrichener, adding more gas to the intake. A choke chokes off the air . Both make a richer mixture.

I'm a Harley owner, but also a car person and they did make some great cars in 1982. lincoln full size town cars with the 302 and your Chevrolet full size with the 305 were great cars! Plus your GM pickup line and Ford pickup line were great great vehicles with the 302 and 351 windsors in the Ford line. Also consider my 1998 dodge ram has the great 318 LA V8 which is 1960s material You cannot say that your full size or some medium sized cars in 82 were not good

Right. Ive only owned and like full size cars and your full sized pickups, so when I think of 1982, I can see GOOD. But then in the 1960s some horrible junk was made. In 1961 ro 63 , olds and buick made this awfull 215 aluminum in some medium sized cars V8 and ford in some of the pickups up until 1966 used the horrible 292 V8 Yblock engine. But then the same years you get the 223 6 or 352 FE V8 in the same ford pickup if you looked before you purchased and those two engines were wonderful. Over all though in large car line and pickups the 80s decade had good quality

They aren't all that rare. The only reason to buy one over a later FXR is if its near mint condition and you intend to keep it that way for collectors. Otherwise, go for 1993 and later for the splined shaft transmission and MUCH better Denso starter which is still used by Harley today. The early brakes and 35mm forks well, suck. FXRs are huge fun. Every biker should try one.

I am age 61, so I can reference back to the shovel head, not by here say, but by mass memory. Harley today IS NOT BETTER as for the evo and cvo and even the M8. The shovel head if used as a passenger vehicle and not hot roded gave people atleast 80k miles and many police used the shovel and many of them went over the 100K mark. With a Harley its all based on stroke and final gear ratio, such as if I put a 4 inch stroke shovel engine in my 2002 softail 1450 cvo, based on my use it is a FACT I would have less trouble and the shovel would last longer. Any evo or cvo today does not last as long as the same shovel per stroke and gear ratio. This fact means that Harley deliberately made their Vtwin engines to break sooner and cost more money and break down more often. I lived it, so I know what I am talking about and know about how large cities police forces used the shovel heads. Plus, I have owned EVO and own a CVO engine now. The shovel was bare bones mechanical without unnecessary nonsense. The kehim carburetors were cheaply built, so many modified to a SS carb, but on the kehin if when you were ready to park it and you turned your fuel off and then let it run 30 seconds so the fuel bowl in the carb could half empty, you could even get good luck out of those. The shovel is better than the Harley engine of today. Even though I love my 02 softail, I swear I could get more use if it had a 4 inch stroke shovel instead
@piewolfe7 жыл бұрын
You are "Dead On" right about the durability and efficiency of the Shovel... Also the older 4 speed trannys were 'Rock Solid'.
@EarlGuyton4257 жыл бұрын
True. I remember my 80 superglide 1200 shovel started up just as fast as these dual and single fire ignitions of today. I am for improvements in the engine line, but when an engine has cam cahinas and tensioners and electronics and it starts no faster plus breaks down more often and cost serious serious big sums of MONEY and causes you to have to increase your tools at hand, then that is the advanced FOOL that defeats purpose. The evos and cvos also do not shake any less or vibrate any less. If any shovel had good ignition wiring and the engine was still balanced on rebuild as it was when new, those did not shake or vibrate and in Houston Texas where I was born and live I remember cops used your shovel and those lasted a good 100k usually. Even your pan head and knuckle head were as good as today.

Also if that is an s&s carb its not a choke its an enrichener and yournot suposed to ride with that on. And for S&S carb to work properly the bike needs aftermarket cam, ignition , lifters and open headers(straightpipes) that bike does not sound cammed out..
