FYI. If you put in a primary jet that is one size larger it will stop the spit back through the carb. stock was either a #40 or #42 go up one size #42 or #45.

Todd is a 1988 FXRS-SP , it has about 65.000 miles , it looks great to me for my first bike , it has a Bod Dron Oakland California badge on top of the lights hat , but I bought from Nevada ! So yes please Todd if I could give you call or getting in touch with you .thanks Todd

I have an '89 FXR, and it rides better than my '02 Heritage. I love it, especially the fact that it only has 3 fuses, and pretty much no electronics on it.

all depends on who is doing the buying. The later have some updates that are nice to have. My customer's want the later ones.

Unfortunately, my working knowledge ends with the 4 speed models. Once the 5 speed stuff came out, I got so many bikes I had to have my mechanic's do the work. I would have to break out a manual and figure it out. Harley does sell the manueals for these still

Ben, best way to learn how to ride safely is to buy a powerful dirt bike with a clutch but one you can put both feet on the ground when sitting on it, like a YZ 80. Take it out and learn how to ride in the dirt first. When you can shift and brake without thinking, do a power slide easily, then your ready for the street.

Hey Hunt, Is an 86 Fxrs_sp a good buy if shes sound, With 34k on her. Was that decent year.cuz I Know thers a3 year bracket around there that some were belt some were chain . Mines belt..but I just want to confirm if my year Rocks or Not? Thanks. Chief

Please where's the drain for the engine oil? Is any advice you please can give to me before trying to change the clutch cable and engine, transmission and engine oils ?? I've never fired the bike ever since I've got it from the USA all the way to Australia as it had a red engine light on the dash , so if you could give me any advice as I don't know anyone that knows these bikes like you Todd. The RS was not necessarily a convertible. The RS had dual disc front brakes. Convertible's had screw on and off saddle bags and very large windshield that was also detached with screws that could be worked with your fingers. Any FXR 'could' of been a convertible

Was the model I bought brand new. Konis, supertrapps, S&S g series better frnt springs added. 10yrs trouble free. Other choice was a Fatboy. No contest. No regrets.

The evo was the last of the good Harley motors the 86 96 and 103 twin cam all have cam chain adjuster issues that have never been fully adressed Harley should have stuck with the evo

An easy fix on the chain cam issue, install gear to gear set up, my twin cam i put over 100,000 and not one issue, can 4 degrees and POW, she starts every time, on a 1000 ft track she will piss some Brothers off and get accused of doing under handed shi.... not the case at all. lots of fun in the stock class, also put over a 100 passes giving all she has, yes sometimes i would miss 2nd gear, off the line is like a rubberband and not one bit of fall, then its all about hitting 2nd gear, on time without choking, i cannot tell you all the runs i went on, Florida, South Dakota, Lazy Mikes in the deepest part of louisiana, over a 150 miles over dirt road and Mud, if you had the Balls, the finest ladies at your service for full Bike detail and then some, what a blast, the most Peaceful, Beautiful, all around good good People, also experienced life changing experiences for those Brothers and Sisters who could see no way out. The 88 Inch Twin Cam.... the best thing Harley ever done.

I heard the frame was about a hundred pounds lighter. One of the reasons people like them is the swing arm isn't mounted to the motor, and the foot pegs aren't attached to the swingarm. I was looking at one. But it had been left out in the rain. Many things had been changed on the bike. And then it had a $5,000 paint job that was somebody else's idea of cool. And a seat that was covered in ostrich hide. The bike just screamed young, desperate, inexperience, and a lot more money than common sense. The last owners fingerprints were all over it, the bike was a crime scene. Originally the bike had duel discs. Now it only had one disc. Which kind of said the guy had stacked it. and didn't have the money to put it back proper. The original gauges were missing, the tanks had dual caps, which meant they were not the original. But basically a lot about what makes the FXR so valuable had been changed. Including the exhaust. A pair of short shotguns on it. People do pay money for them if they are unmolested. It's strange now we pay more for bikes because of what hasn't been done to them. People expect you to buy their accident. Self-control is rare. "Iron American Dream" on KZbin.

Todd you've been my inspiration to get this bike, as before watching your videos I had no ideas about bikes, this is my first bike , and after hearing you saying that this was the best handling Harley ever so I got one, the seller from Nevada told me it had leak on the clutch cable , I have found that the cable was touching the exhaust pipes ( a thunder headers ) , so I please need to know , which kind oil should I put inside the cable? Where's the drain for the transmission ? Where's the drain

90 cases on the softtails tend to be weak. It is possible some of the weak cases made it onto the 90 FXR series

This is 2022, pitting is a natural degradation of HDs sealer. Most are pitted all over the aluminum. If you want a new bike, buy a new bike. O wait, they don't make FXRs anymore 😢
