Interesting and good info about wind and rattling. Last year I was kinda lucky how it worked out. I was rattling in the timber but I think they were bedded on the block as it was cold but sunny. I got cold so walked a bit into the edge of the block to warm up in the sun. He was coming in to the rattle I think as he was standing downhill and a little down wind about 200 yards yet. He hadn't come far enough to be directly down wind though. If I had stayed at my spot he would have done exactly like you said and I think I never would have seen him. Biggest whitetail I will probably ever shoot. Sun was at my back too. Lucky more than anything.

Nice! Ya it's crazy, I mean you just really never now exactly how it will pan out which makes it pretty sweet in ways. As long as your in an active area with good doe population, during the right time, rattling, if down correctly is pretty much deadly.

I believe the biggest thing is just being able to see into the surrounding areas...those big mature bucks definitely come in, but their level of caution is steps ahead of the average. They won't come in as close and utilize the cover aspect to a much wyser degree.

@@Fueledbythewild I got some grouse at the beginning of the season, but so far no deer. These Island Blacktails are shy😢 Hopefully, they'll be coming out in the rut😁

@@agesadventures Nice man! I used to do well for blacktail around the 10th in November, just hike in and work the clearcuts early mornings...we used to actually have great opportunities throughout the entire day during November. Good luck bud.
