HUNTING HOGS WITH BULL TERRIERS

The method of hunting hogs, the open trailing dogs or silent dogs have a pig at bay, the catch dog is released to move in and hold the pig - usually by the ear - until the hunters can arrive and dispatch the animal. APBT scared of big animals? Thats a joke. Theres literally videos of game dogs working 1 ton bulls. Getting knocked 20-30 feet in the air only to get up and do it again. Sounds like you got sone petbull or bully , not a real game dog

I’ve seen a lot of pure game dogs that are big. Coming in the 70’s and 60’s. It’s not common but also not rare

You obviously never went hog hunting. Apbt's aren't good for it because they clamp onto legs or whatever they can grab onto. Where bull terriers go for the head. The best hog hunting dog is the Doggo Argentine imo. Pits get too distracted by the other dogs and during a hunt get so excited that they'll grab onto a dog on its team completely defeating the purpose on a hunt. If we were talking about dog fighting you are dead on. But hunting hogs is a different ballgame.

The AmPit Bulls he has seen go for the legs and not the head or ears of a hog, tend to think twice about going up against such a big animal, and are less game than the Bull Terriers? I don't know, man. He sounds like has seen some AmBullies or something. When it comes to being game, there doesn't seem to be any breed more game than the AmPit Bull. I wonder how many AmPit Bulls he has been around or where he would get his from. If they were actually AmPit Bulls, maybe he has just gotten the misfortune of running into bad examples.

@@DogumentaryTV I get what you're saying, but to be fair to me, I did say "AmBullies or something." Though, some Bullies aren't as bulky and stubby as the usual ones. I definitely don't think he is unable tell the difference between an exotic Bully and an AmPit Bull. Maybe the dogs he has seen are AmStaffs or Staffies. Or maybe he has seen bad examples of AmPit Bulls. I have no idea how many he has seen in action. All I am saying is that Pit Bulls thinking twice about a hog doesn't sound like the norm.

Scott Bulldogs are just as game as Pits. Dogo Argentino is the best for hunting

It's actually common around the world for apbts to get slightly negative reviews in boar hunting communities compared to ebts, except for in the eastern USA where they are obviously the catch dog of choice. Possibly they have better catch dog lines down there, but elite gamebred lines and petbull lines alike are not that great. At least inconsistent. Ebts are praised globally for catch work and especially prized in crosses.

APBTs I love them they are fearless I've breed game dogs for 11 years. But they don't have half the prey drive of my English Bull Terriers . Thanks for this video. There are a few people that use Bull Terriers or crosses for hog hunting. They tend to last longer than Pits in hot weather and less dog aggressive when hunting in teams. I see a lot of people complaining about the man’s personal experience. Go use whatever helps you in your area. 🤷🏽‍♂️

@@oncall21 Anything can bail, you want a catch dog to reliably catch and not let go. If a dog "can" bail, it might bail when you least expect it/don't want it. Putting you at risk. They shouldn't have any "bail" in their vocabulary. I'm saying this as someone who got a bull arab that bailed once. It was a dud. It is not what you want from a bull arab. Bailing is just a dog being scared and unsure of its ability to commit to a hold. It is good for a catahoula or rhodesian ridgeback or coonhound or BMC to keep themselves safe and bail until backup arrives, a bull arab is not supposed to be that kind of dog (cur), it is supposed to be a reliable lugger like a dogo argentino, bull terrier, pitbull, etc.

@@RickyBobby42069 the bull arab I currently own is not dog aggressive at all. Like under no circumstances would it ever fight a dog, it would submit to a Bichon frise, let alone a cas. However I have owned others that were dog aggressive and known of others (even read quite a few news stories where they killed other dogs). Mind you, even they weren't "rank driven" or liable to feud and quarrel with their pack members, if they are dog aggressive it is more likely to be the predatory kind, and it's really up to to raise a dog to know what is and isn't prey. I would expect a BA to be fine with your CAS.
