Is there anyway we could meet ? I’d like to see your dogs in person maybe do like an interview also . I’m actually new to Iowa and been looking for “ hunters with dogs “. It be nice to meet and greet with some other dog men and possibly purchase a pup from you guys when the time is right . Cause I’d like to get involved . We run hogs but I’m in the wrong spot for that.

Do your research on the Indian dog breeds. India banned hunting in 1972 with some exceptions so the local Indian breeds basically are facing extinction. A lot of them have obvious greyhound and Saluki influences and they've always been in India. I'll list the names of the dog breeds: Rajapalayam, Mudhol (personal favorite so far), Kanni/Chippiparai/Caravan, and Jonangi. There's quite a few more but they're mostly property defense dogs/boar hunting or herding dogs. I've been wanting to visit India with the possibility of importing some Mudhols, etc. Even the Indian government realized this and they're paying local villagers to breed those dogs. There are even dog villages where the sole purpose is to sell the pups and so on. Crazy! Those dog breeds seem to have thicker skin and less likely to break legs or tear skins which greyhounds are prone to.
@nandu77142 ай бұрын
It's crazy that you know bout our Indian sighthounds. You are correct they were widely used as hunting dogs back in the day, now mostly used as farm dogs as in using their innate prey drive to chase animals off the property. They are not heading towards extinction, actually they're widely bred now with breeders owning third-fourth generation lineage. But they are bred mostly for size now rather than work. The origin of these breeds is believed to be the TAZI sighthounds, that is saluki-afghan hound but greyhound influences are possible. If you were to import to hunt bigger prey you can either choose mudhol hound or the chippiparai cause they were used on deer ,wolves and even pigs.

Lovely dogs. I recommend you look into Scottish Deerhounds aswell. They're of the greyhound lines but made for coursing bigger game. They're larger and stockier than Greyhounds, but still extremely fast, and made to cover rougher terrain. They also have a bit more rugged coat aswell so they dont get scratches as easily

My 1st time here. Love your dogs. I got involved with greys in '98. I love them. I respect all owners of the different high prey needed activities. Actually all 7 of my hounds were low prey drive and my kitty cats appreciated that. I enjoy the races and of my 7 I had 2 that flunked out of racing school and one that broke a leg. This video was introducing all youR dogs. I must say have a really nice farm, and beautiful, healthy hounds. Thanks for your time and have fun.

Should explain the term catch dog and throat dog and what ever terms you guys used. Do you buy retired greyhounds from the race track? The taxidermy job isn’t to bad and if that’s your first time it’s darn good. You must be in the western part of Iowa? Jumping out of the truck when you let them loose on a coyote could be the start of a stress fracture for those greyhounds. I appreciate what you did with this video going into depth about the dogs! May I ask what a greyhound is worth if they don’t work out for hunting?
