Definitely needs to work on his hunting skills. Seems to me he's doing more damage to the reef then the lionfish.

Question? Why when you kill the lionfish why you don't just cut it up and allow the fish to eat it? if they get used to eating lionfish it might train them to see them as a potential food source? rather than placing them in buckets.

that was the idea, when they feed it to the eels, but that just trains the eels to think divers will give them food. When we keep the lionfish, we eat it ourselves, it's a tasty fish.

Well that why I was saying to just kill them and leave it so fish will see that it is a food source... I see a lot of fish won't eat them while they are alive except a grouper and even that takes a long time to get it in the right place so he can strike.

it is gonna take every diver working hard to control these rascals - here is my contribution to the effort in Cayman - kzbin.info/www/bejne/j32klpiPrMuWopY - feeding snapper and kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJCllaeFe86So8k - Feeding Moray

This Divemaster feeding lionfish to eels is the huge problem in Roatan. I have seen tourist that have been bitten by eels because the eels has been taught that divers hand out food. People have been lost fingers one guest was bitten on the throat. Divemasters who do this should be reported to the marine park and their training organizations. This divemaster should not be working. I do realize this video was filmed years back. Feeding lionfish to other animals is prohibited as this is dangerous to all other divers.

I agree, the original intentions were good though, trying to train eels and sharks that they should eat lionfish, the outcome though was that eels and sharks learned to expect food when they saw divers not that they started hunting lionfish. The dive shop actually asked me to edit that portion out after they saw the video, but I document and that's what I documented :(

Chris Willey spearfishing is dangerous. Being in the ocean is dangerous.

I think the well being of the reef and the marine kingdom is more important than fulfilling tourists (who essentially do not belong to sea) curiosity? If these animals start eating the lionfish, ultimately they might all be able to coexist and form a working biosystem. Otherwise the lionfish will take over.
