Been watching episodes of Canada in the rough on and off from its beginning. I don’t watch much tv, usually just online content. Firstly, great cinematography, quality workmanship and a good way to promote Canada as the greatest hunting destination on earth. There’s a but…. 👍 It’s not only this show, but any hunting or fishing related show, so no finger pointing only at Canada in the Rough. The content has been catered to outfitters, plug and play, eat, sleep, go to the set up done by others and has turned into more just target practice like a rifle range. That may be appealing to a small percentage of the hunting public, maybe 5% of hunters annually. What’s being lost in the process of the outdoors shows is the education of hunting for up and coming hunters to pass on the past time that our fathers and grandfathers taught us. Finding land, finding deer, finding mature bucks, building different types of deer hunting set ups, ground, tree stand, box blinds and approaches to them, wind, weather, being prepared for the changing elements, field dressing and care and so much more. Without the knowledge, younger hunters just won’t have success or the education needed to be successful woodsmen. Outdoors shows used to be more educational, tips, tricks and techniques. 95% of hunters do not use outfitters to do all the leg work. Presenting hunting as a pay someone to set you up is great for the silver spooned folks that have no interest other than shooting a deer. This criticism isn’t directed solely to one particular show, more the change that’s occurring in all outdoor programming. I think that doing some shows without the use of outfitters, walking youngsters through the hunting process and what it actually takes to be a skilled, well rounded woodsman and successful hunter will help to carry on the hunting traditions.

You are right on. The art and skills of true hunting is slowly being lost. The use of bait like in this video is now the standard at 80%. without baiting, succes rate would go way down. Like you said, this is the difference between shooting and hunting.

You cannot hunt across Canada without using Outfitters. It is illegal to do so.

@@canadaintheroughtv Any crownland in Canada is legal for hunting. Outfitters have their use but we can hunt crownland.
@canadaintheroughtv25 күн бұрын
@useryggfdcc not true. Crownland has nothing to do with it. Most provinces require a non-resident to hunt with a licensed guide/outfitter. So if you want to legally hunt across Canada, you have to use guides
@robmainville263225 күн бұрын
@@canadaintheroughtv you’re missing the point of my post. You can still hunt with an outfitter or guide to hunt different provinces which in many cases is required, but not all provinces. The point of the message was that the show is not teaching new and upcoming hunters, who are the future of the hunting any skills other than than how to swipe a credit card, sit in a pre set up spot and pull the trigger. There’s no skills being taught in that process. The show can still be entertaining while teaching something other than how to pay for a hunt. Stop focusing on advertising outfitters and start focusing on hunting skills, practices and ethics. Or Just keep doing what you’re doing if it works for you 👍

I just dont get the point of hunting over 'bait'....maybe hunt the travel corridors leading to it? idk, just not for me. That buck and any other deer deserves better

How many deer did they sit and watch before choosing on one? Looks like a fare way to judge and take the right one to me
@xZimm11x27 күн бұрын
@@denniscrocker6215 Not really understanding your point lol, and vise versa I think. Some of us hunt very hard and dont sit over an attractant to 'choose' the right one. The right one, is the one you choose, or perhaps the right one chooses you, if you are lucky. I wonder how many women didnt choose you, maybe if you had a pile of money out in the yard, you could pick the one you wanted. Think about it

Baiting is used to pursue most game animals and fish. Waterfowl hunting in grainfields with decoys, fishing with live and artificial baits, trappers use bait, predator hunters use bait, and on & on. Something to ponder. It's not shooting fish in a barrel.
@xZimm11x15 күн бұрын
@@Johnowens-dm1vb Actually it is shooting fish in a barrel, minus the barrel. There is piles of snow up there at that time of year so the deer are literally slaves to those piles. Waterfowl hunting is no comparison, the range of the birds is endless and a grain field is not bait, not to mention the size of said field is very large in relation to the blind setup so they can land anywhere and often do or dont even stop (seeing as they have endless fields to stop in btw). Decoys are just fine to use in waterfowl AND deer hunting. Fishing, another terrible analogy when using live/artificial lures. That is 'hunting' if you will in those terms as far as mimicking the behavior of their prey. Netting fish would be a proper comparison. To compare trapping and deer hunting dosent make any sense, the numbers of the animals you trap are extremely opposite compared to a deer herd. Not only that, you dont even eat them typically, they are sold off for their pelt. Baiting predators is part of managing the amount of animals upsetting the ecosystem. Really not a hard concept to understand, this is not hunting. Its shooting fish in a barrel, without a barrel...Ponder more about this and actually apply logic when using the word "HUNTING"

@xZimm11x as someone who has hunted in Mi for over 50 years( with & without bait ) I strongly disagree. Your entitled to your opinion.

@Monk3ywatr28 күн бұрын
@@Trythis837 Killing the wolves could cause an imbalance in the ecosystem causing the deer to not have a predator. This could cause the deer populations to skyrocket and would destroy the ecosystem. You learn about ecosystems in elementary school it's basic knowledge.
@Trythis83728 күн бұрын
@@Monk3ywatr no it couldn't. Ontario has a massive over population of wolves and nowhere do we have a deer or moose population even remotely close to carrying capacity. Ontario should have a law requiring you to bring in a wolf or coyote pelt if you want a deer tag. Way too many guys are like these Canada in the rough people. Just taking and never doing anything to help our wildlife.
@canadaintheroughtv28 күн бұрын
@Trythis837 a wolf tag is required to shoot a wolf in Ontario. So no one in Ontario should shoot a wolf without a tag. And your accusations are baseless and incredibly weak. Why don’t you come out from hiding behind your internet alias and tell us who you are and a little about yourself?
