Hunting rabbits with fast dogs/How to train dogs to run rabbits/Rabbit hunting in South Carolina

We had a good day of rabbit hunting in South Carolina today. We found an area that had quite a few rabbits. The dogs worked the thick cover really god and we were able to take nine rabbits.

Used to hunt rabbits every season, coyotes moved in, no rabbits, no quail.

Coyotes only get a fraction of rabbits. The loss of rabbits and quail are due to habitat loss. I have Coyotes on my property and rabbits and quail because I don't spray my fence rows and I have brush piles. The spraying of herbicides are the main killer of rabbits and quail. Now having said that I'm not anti herbicide because as a forester and farmer I know there is a need for spraying under certain conditions.

I live in Southeast Kentucky, I haven’t heard a quail in years, I had some great Llewelyn setters, I hunted grouse! I still see lots of rabbits on my property, I let a couple guys rabbit hunt it every season!

What is the purpose is the dogs? I know that's a stupid question. I have two pet dogs, a beagle and a dachshund mix (beagle sized) that just love to chase rabbits. The mix will catch, kill and bring it back. How do you get the dogs to flush the rabbit towards you without shooting the dog close behind the rabbit?

rabbits naturally go in a circle when being pressured the dogs are not going to be able to catch up to the rabbit

its impossible to train a dog to flush a rabbit in a certain direction, the rabbit is going to run in a direction it wants to.Your dog should be able to track the rabbit and bark till the rabbit circles back around to you, you just have to be in the right place.
