Hey , at what month did you let them hunt? And how was it their first hunt? I got a 5 month beagle and she been doing good chasing the rabbit at home but I took her out hunting with me yesterday and it doesn’t look like she can get on a rabbit. A rabbit will run by and my dog isn’t able to run a track Any advise ?

@@alisonhurtado1094 it happens. I would just say more exposure is better and they will pick it up, just be patient. There’s been days I left the woods so pissed off because they just quit or ignored the scent, then the next time out they did amazing. It takes them time to learn. Also, the scent can be harder to track in certain weather conditions. The dogs can have off days too just like humans do. Just keep taking them out and putting them right on the rabbit scent and really encourage them, get them excited.

Are these beagles from a hunting bloodline or just a random breeder?

They are from a breeder in KY. Their bloodline is mainly Greenwells Reggie, and Brent’s Primetime from what I saw those were the names that seem talked about the most and they made up 50% of the bloodline. 300$ each plus delivery.

Where you get the live rabbits from? A breeder, or are there people out there that's so wild rabbits live?

I found a guy selling them about an hour from me listed as “San jaun” rabbits. In Ohio is illegal to use wild rabbits and keep them captive so San Jaun is the next closest thing in size, color, and smell. I think people raise them for food.

Both my Beagle Boys are rescues. One from a good breeder in FL that gave him away because he was a runt. Tge other from a shelter were his owner passed away and his pack was given to the shelter.

Question for ya on training I got a 6 month old beagle that is just super obstinate on learning commands (sit , stay , ect) any advice?

I tried to do the whole sit/stay commands but quickly learned it doesn’t come easily to beagles. It’s not what they are bred for. They are bred to focus on a scent and never abandon it. Ignore all distractions other than following a scent. It is their greatest strength as a hunter and their greatest weakness as a house pet 😂. They listen well enough that I never have them on leash and no fence in my yard but they are not winning any awards for sit/stay any time soon😂

I've got a 6yr old dachshund Elkhound mix and a 4.5yr old beagle I'm learning to hunt and get a license because they won't stop chasing rabbits. Never trained them for it, they just hate rabbits livin I guess The beagle is from SW MI and looks a lot like your guys, probably related if you're in nw Ohio. I wish I could replicate the mixed dog. He's a lot like Beagle but calmer and a lot smarter. Still a hound, but just a better dog, same size as a beag

Fox hounds will run Rabbits’s, the concern is the fox hounds will catch the rabbits and it won’t be much of a chase.
