What a great pleasure to see wonderful guns and hear the hunting stories shared between two refined Gentlemen. I especially appreciated the story that Wolfgang shared about the doves, which for me highlighted the value of hunting as a thoughtful and measured endeavour - not simply trying to rack up hits. I also liked hearing about the man who was able to buy back his farm after reunification (and the Polish Woman of the kitchen!) Thank You both for sharing the moments.

Hi Gary - Wish I could see that stock. For sure hunting rifles and shotguns are quite different from hammers and other tools. Every hunter deserves a fine rifle and shotgun with decent wood - something to be proud of and pass on to the next generation. IMHO Take care Gary.

My cousin is a hunter here in lower saxony, germany, and he's got the same Leica scope from 19:30 on his 8x57 Merkel, an absolutely dream of a gun in my opinion, the scope is great for low light conditions, at dawn, when you have that one shot left in the last light and you see everything crystal clear - it's fabulous!

I might be mistaken but I believe that on one of your presentations you showed a rifle with a scope mount with a quick detach. The scope slotted in at the front at 90% from the rifle and swiveled to the rear and locked in at the rear crisp and clean. It was meant for a quick removal for traveling and would remount for quick and accurate use on the rifle. I sure hope it was you haha im slow to react and didn't write down the manufacturers name if it was given. I have two 1982 Winchester model 70 Westerners that are virgins and have not been shot yet and they are beautiful. One is a .270 and the other is a .30-06 caliber. My intention is to be able to mount one scope on both rifles according to which rifle that I choose to use on that particular day but I do not know who made the mount and I sure liked the set up. If you have that information and could pass it on to me it would be greatly appreciated. I really enjoy your shows and encourage you to keep up the good work because you share such good information. Thanks for everything you do, sincerely Dale Sustaire.

My preference is certainly oriented toward the aesthetics of the rifle! Greetings to you Michael: As Wolfgang says: "Life is too short to hunt with an ugly gun." I know every city in Germany as both a commercial driver andq active duty residential service member. Additionally, I have driven all over Poland just before the EU made borders open and have to show my passport obtain auto vignette etc...many roads with hazardous potholes, still largely undeveloped from the Soviet days..yet of course roadways for military use all the way through east Berlin were like new //had the privilege of meeting my relations (former DDR / WWII Rheich)

A fantastic video as always! Wolfgang's experience traveling with guns by air might shock some of the younger crowd, but it was not unusual. In the late 60s, my father brought a pistol back from Canada to India and he brought it with him as cabin baggage and declared it to customs on arrival in Madras. He had to leave it with them until he was issued a license the next day by the Commissioner of Police, and he took it home. One of my uncles also brought a pistol back from Sri Lanka with him by air. Sadly, we live in a dangerous world now and that is no longer possible. His forgetting Hartmann und Weiss's name cracked me up! Some consider them among the finest gunmakers in the world. They are among a handful of firms that can make $ 30,000+ boltguns and still have a waiting list of clients! Since you gentlemen are in Canada, I hope the fairly large Indian community there has retained the hunting and gun collecting interests that existed in India in the past. Best wishes, and good hunting!

Looked up the 8x68s. Who knew? A 200 grain bullet at 3,000 fps that is chambered in a standard Mauser action. It is suprising that the cartridge was developed in the 1930s. The 300 Winchester magnum and 300 Weatherby magnum will do the same approximately with a 200 grain bullet. However they require a longer action.
