I served on the USS Peleliu, LHA-5, way back in the 90's. I love they modeled them into Sea Power. Interesting the choice to model them with the forward 5" guns, all LHA's had those removed around 1995.

@@whale75 yeah! Super cool ships one came to New Orleans maybe 10 or so years ago they had a public touring event and we got to go on some ships I don’t think they were arleigh burkes but I’m not sure which ships they were honestly but in the distance you could see the LHA and I naively thought it was a giant aircraft carrier 🤣 I think it was navy week not sure what year

I recently watched someone making a scenario in the mission editor, and showed that the earliest year date can be set as far back as 1947. Which I’m hoping will mean that the unit roster will include having assets starting from the Post-War era.

How did they get to the Caribbean without getting spot? If everything locked on soon got shallow enough to see anything lol Active sonar with the the towed array should’ve said RIGHT HERE
@sedatedape315Ай бұрын
The waters in and around the Caribbean are Ungodly deep! Add the currents moving around islands and the undersea mountains and it can be pretty noisy for ASW patrols.

Refreshing seeing someone do stuff that the "nerds" (and I'm subbed to the lot of them so don't get me wrong) just don't really go for. Crossing the T, but with a sub, that's a new one.

at the start you were making positioning decisions before deciding to analyze your passive sonar returns. you should reverse that process, and always analyze what your passive sonar has to say first. going so shallow so early was unnecessarily risky when you had so much data you hadn't even read from your sonar

The SS-N-16 is designed to sink submarines, the conventional variant is not usable against surface ships.

Hey, you're not really using the right weapon for the job here. The 53-65 (53cm/~21" diameter) is great for smaller warships (like the Spruance you one-shot), and 4 out of your 6 tubes in the Victor 2 and 3 are 53cm tubes. The 65-76K is a 65cm diameter torp, has a 50% larger warhead and is made specifically for crippling and killing larger ships like the Tarawa
@thegenericguy83092 ай бұрын
in particular, it is designed to give torpedo attacks standoff range vs ASROC-equipped escorts, which 53-65K could theoretically engage past to the targets, but not reliably unless it pushed dangerously close. also, 53-65K is the ASuW wake homing torpedo with a 'K' suffix (for the Kirov plant that developed it in-house as a modification of the 53-65 torpedo, while marginally worse in performance it was dramatically cheaper and more importantly much safer to handle owing to switching to an oxy-kerosene propulsion). 53-65 also had the less common variants 53-65M (an upgrade of 53-65 retaining the type's peroxide propulsion, accepted for service but far less common later on as 53-65K proved to be far safer to handle), 53-65A (53-65K modified for electronic fire inputs for use in the Alfa class's autoloader), and the export 53-65KE (which was identical to 53-65K) 65-76 was only produced as 65-76 and the improved late cold war 65-76A. it was developed as a conventional-warhead wake homing variant of the 65-73 nuclear straight running torpedo
