Avoid June, as "June Gloom" occurs, from May to July. That is, clouds along the coastline in the morning, and not "burning off" until the afternoon, or many times, persisting for days in a row. August and September usually the best months, but even October can be very nice, especially when the warm, desert Santa Ana winds are blowing.
