Huntington's disease is an inherited neurological disorder with devastating physical and psychological symptoms that escalate in the years between diagnosis and death. Huntington's most often strikes at midlife - in many cases, without warning. Most people with the disease die by age 60, usually from complications like infections, choking or falls. Huntington's has shattered the lives, homes and plans of three generations of the Eby family, leaving behind a nearly unrecognizable new reality. Read more: lancasteronline...

What an absolutely beautiful man...a true gentleman. His soul is so full and his capacity to love and care for his wife and daughter with such dedication and positivity is so amazing. I can’t wish the best for him enough, I truly hope anything that he can possibly be blessed with and needs, he receives. I’m so sorry such a thing has happened to such a good family.

My dad, sister and I took care of my mother for 11 years. Her movements reminded me of this cute wife. My mom loved the fish tanks as well. Now my niece is taking care of my brother, who also is HD positive along with MS. He will be 59 next month. My mother faced this awful disease with grace, beauty and wisdom, telling everyone she met " We all have something and this is my something". I was lucky enough to be with her when she passed away. She donated her body to the U of U med for research.

Such a devoted husband and dad to spend the time he does with his wife and daughter. Watching this you can see his pain however masked thru cheer to not only have to be there for his beautiful wife but daughter as well! It is common for HD patients to go hungry if there loved ones are not there to help with assisting with meal times. As wife of a Huntington's man and we do take our marriage vows seriously and we are here for a long time as well as the good times... He is such a wonderful man!

Your inner strength will help you. My mother , grandmother, and uncle died from this disease from hell itself. I was fortunate that I did not get the disease, but if I had children, each child would have a 50-50 chance of getting it. Thats one reason I did not have children. My father and I visited my mother at a state hospital for the mentally ill because back in the 60's nursing homes would not accept HD patients. My mother lived with HD for 10 years, and pneumonia ended her life. She never complained to God, and sometimes fell on the street going to church. I know that she is in paradise now. My father also is there also. Please stay strong BigAl Snel. I will say a prayer for you.

Richard Schlimbach if you didn't inherit the illness, there is no way you can pass it on to offspring. You yourself would have to have it because it doesn't skip a generation, its inherited by affected parent
@richieslimbach
@richieslimbach 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you MacDaddyKO for your comments. I watched a documentary and I was shocked that I was wrong all these years. I always thought that every child has a 50-50 chance of getting the disease, but I did not know that if you don't inherit the disease, the children would not get the gene. I don't know when they started testing for the disease, but at my age of 65 now, it would be pointless to get tested because the days of having children are over (never married anyway). Oh well, I was cheated in many ways that one in this life time, so there is no sense of complaining anymore about anything. If I were younger, I would NOT be tested. If positive, it can ruin your life. Being a homosexual, I never had to worry about having children in the first place, but if I were heterosexual, I surely would have made a tremendous error in my false information.
@me-xx2gl
@me-xx2gl 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is inherited in a direct line. Grandma had it. Her son did not get the gene. Her daughter did. Daughter had children and both have the gene. Son had children and his kids will not get the gene. The 50/50 thing means each child of someone with the gene has a fifty percent chance of getting the gene. With each child there are the same odds. A family can have all children or none of them get the gene. Good luck to you. I hope you dodged the bullet

An old friend of mine is in late stage Huntington’s. She’s been in long-term care for 6 years. She’s slowly wasting away and in full chorea. She’s only 58 and it’s so sad. She’s always happy to see us and we her. This is a woman who loved whitewater kayaking, mountain biking and camping. She’s on drug therapy which is extending her life but we know we’ll get the call sooner or later. This is a cruel disease.

This is especially hard as you should have your mother caring for you - not the other way around. You have to be so strong and give her all your love but please don't forget yourself. Don't suffer alone, talk to somebody - maybe a teacher you trust. That's often more helpful than talking to family or close friends.

the cause of it is the repetition of the C-A-G genetic bases. You can actually get yourself tested to see if you're apt to this disease. Which is often a difficult choice whether you want to know if you have it or not. The test has been accurate. If it repeated 36 or under than you will most likely not get it but you are in greater risk if it repeats 36 times or above.

And the more repeats you have, the younger you will be when you get it. Even young children can be affected.
