I did not know this was a thing. Looks exciting! Going to have to research how to build one of these. Where do I start?

My dad raced for years in an authentic antique race car club with his red 1918 Model T speedster until the group shut down from lack of funding and interest. He passed one year ago yesterday, three months after selling his cars, and I would give anything to be able to share these videos with him. I honestly believe that losing that part of his life killed him faster than any cancer could have. Seeing these cars, watching how much fun everyone is having... makes me want to start work on my own, if only to feel engaged with him again Of course, I would want to build the "Hannibal Twin 8" from The Great Race, our favourite movie :)

Build a cyclekart, it is one of the easiest ways into a "motorsport", and Mark Parnell at Renegade Cyclekart Parts is building Hannible 8, your dad would approve of both!

At 1:07 seems to be a replica of Basil Davenport's famous GN Spider II racer in the background. A car that's been at the top of it's game for 100 years. A weird looking but very fast twin.

Cameraman: Hints: Stay zoomed out fully and don't whip the camera around. Causes dizziness and nausea for the viewer. Pretend it has a broken wing and nurse it as you turn. Try to live through the camera so you maintain proper framing. If you really want to go wild, put the camera on a closed tripod, hold the rig from a few inches down on the tripod shaft. Poor mans gimble. If you'd like, I could talk one of the car builders into making you a steadi-cam... (thanks!)

It would be great if they were electric.
@donhammer186 Жыл бұрын
Right... once you purchase a good gas powered generator to charge the batteries between heats it makes prefect sense. The idea is to be able to build an inexpensive, light weight kart to compete with. By the time you outfit one for electric drive they weigh more and you have to spend additional $$$ on (the afore mentioned) a "gas powered generator" and extra batteries. Where is the advantage!?
@oscare.quiros6349 Жыл бұрын
@@donhammer186 I see your point, but since you asked, well the advantage is speed, lots of less noise, and less polution. Cheers
@donhammer186 Жыл бұрын
Do you remember the story of the tortoise and the hare? By the time you put a large enough electric motor and enough of those heavy batters in a kart, you have diminished your time on track enough that you have lost the advantage of speed. It's been tried. There is zero advantage to electric over gas. Did you know that lithium is one of the most toxic compounds on the planet, do you know that most lithium comes from Afghanistan where it is mined by young children, do you know that there are no facilities currently in place to store or recycle lithium batteries...? As I asked, where is the advantage? @@oscare.quiros6349
@dickfitzwelliner2807 Жыл бұрын
@@oscare.quiros6349the cars have little engines to keep the speed down. A little car with no exhaust sound is lame and would seem slower and the "pollution" is very trivia because you're replacing one type of pollution with another. Besides the cars would cost more and weigh more. Why not just be content with what it is and enjoy life instead of being a buzzkill?
@oscare.quiros6349 Жыл бұрын
@@dickfitzwelliner2807 I guess you have not been informed about electric vehicles (EV) at all. It has been abundantly demostrated with hundreds of scientific articles based on evidence that EVs pollute a lot less, and are more cost effective than internal combustion engines. If you do not want to read academic journals, you could just ask anybody who owns an EV.
