The Rice car was dieseling, where the oil was either getting past the rings, or there was a hole in one of the pistons. Allow the oil up into the intake area and causing the engine to run like it was running off of diesel. What they did with regards to drowning the air cleaner with water took away the air. Which is what caused the engine to stop running. Because they were not going to take away the fuel, until the oil was gone... Which I do recall seeing this exact type of thing take place during a drag race years ago. Although the Safari crew knew what to do and the engine got shut down reasonably quickly...
@joeymartin87223 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that a Co2 extinguisher would be a good thing to have on hand for something like this! You think that would be a better option then water?
@TheCrewChief3743 жыл бұрын
@@joeymartin8722 Well I would have both, due to the fact the goal is to starve the engine of air. Because it is a vacuum just sucking that air down the air cleaner. Although the drag race they used water as well. Which those guys on the Safari fire crew, know what they are doing. Because at that point they are not concerned about saving the engine from water or dry chemical damage. It is all about keeping things from getting out of hand, with regards to the engine blowing up.
@Ever4433 жыл бұрын
@@joeymartin8722 Would Have worked as well. Water is easiest, and most tracks don't carry Co2 anymore due to stupid state regs on that stuff. And motor is basically junk at that point so the risk of more damage with water down the carb is minimal at that point.
@charlescross43933 жыл бұрын
Yeah knew it was dieseling have seen trucks do it and also run backwards but never a car motor. Was wild for sure. Had they knew what to do might have saved the block anyway.
@TheCrewChief3743 жыл бұрын

Went to Eldora Wednesday for the twin 25's and saw Joshua at the drivers meeting. Didn't know the whole crew was there. Walked into the infield just as Missler was rolling up to tech... Ran into Ben Shelton while I was walking around and gawking. Encouraged me to take lots of pictures and welcomed me to the show. Yee Haw, that place is a great show. I think I'll try to make it to other events there this year. Hope HTF makes the World 100 !!!
