Beginner gurdist over here! Just recently discovered your channel and I'm already loving it! Great mix of entertainment and very helpful advice! And I'm soooo grateful for your string suggestions, because my hurdy gurdy came with Kürschner strings and though they sound great, it's not easy to get new ones and they can be quite expensive... Two questions came to my mind: 1.) I've got a 35-scale hurdy gurdy made by Helmut Seibert. It has the two g-melodystrings (in octave tuning, so g3 and g4 I guess) and an additional c-string (c4). Is it possible to switch the c4 string to a c3 if I'm using a thicker string for that? I really like the deep, mellow sound but I'm not sure if the scale of my gurdy is too short. 2.) Could you do a video about how to set up the tangents for correct intonation? I'm pretty sure, there are a billion different hurdy gurdy models out there but maybe you can give some advice how at least the octave strings can stay both in tune as I go up the keyboard :) Once again, thank you very, very much! With no teacher around me at the moment, channels like yours are a gold for beginners like me!

Hey Bard 1) definitely yes, I'd try a Viola C tuned to D3 or even C3 2) yes its on my plans

I will begin building my Nerdy as soon as I have all the pieces but planned to ask for the strings for my birthday lol.

You said you use a Savarez Alliance 0.84 mm gauge for the C trompette, but what string is the 1.2 MM G trompette?

I use plain gut from Kurschner or equivalent gauge from Aquila Strings

Hi Sergio! What do you think about Pirastro Tonica / Evah Pirazzi viola strings for the chanterelles? A friend of mine recomended those but I wanted to know your opinion if you've tried them on the gurdy. Also, do you recommend the Thomastik Vision Solo, or just Vision?

Hello Clara, right now I'm using evah pirazzi gold on my G chanter, its quite bright but I like it Tried both vision and vision solo and they work good, I preffer the solo

Yes, Dominant 1/8 works great

Very new beginner gurdist here (just finished building my first Nerdy)! I know in this video you recommend chanters tuned to G3 and G4, as does the Nerdy documentation but I've seen some people tune them in unison G3. What advantages or disadvantages are there to this, if any?

it's just two different aproaches, I like octave tuning because I have 3 different sounds ! only low, only high or both at the same time

Hola Francisco, para la cantora en sol agudo, usamos un La de viola y para el Re agudo un re de viola

Good question! There are many ways of tuning the sympathetics, I tend to tune to the notes of the mode or to root, third, fifth, octave This depends on how many strings you have, you can also try with a chromatic scale, it works nice!
