I've met a few of the guys. Nicko is hilarious and a lot of fun to be around. Adrian is quiet but his love for music is intense. I got to sit with him and drink a beer. He's a super nice guy and he loves discussing the music he made with Bruce and in his solo work. Janick is as nice as you would expect. I've liked him since he joined, back when it wasn't cool to like him. Bruce is shockingly cool. He's down-to-Earth, humble, super-intelligent and very appreciative of his fans. I've met him 3 times and each time was humbling. I met him on my birthday when I turned 17 and he wished me a happy birthday and joked around with me. I met him during his solo career and got to chat with him for about 30 minutes of which I was mostly being stupid and unable to express myself because I was in such awe. I wish I could redo that night! The third time was also after a concert and I got to have a beer with Bruce, Nicko and Adrian. It was amazing. I will add that Blaze is also a super cool guy and a pleasure to chat with. I haven't met Steve or Dave yet.

I wonder if Dave is as happy as he is on the stage, cause he has to be the most smiling guy on it. I think Steve is more of a loner, also because of his negative experiences in life. Where did you meet then, in pubs?

I met Janick a few years back. Always been a fan of him since I first got in to iron maiden back when I was 8 and m brother had this concert on VHS and we watched t together. Janick was so nice. He lives slightly north from me and I met him in a pub there. Lovely guy and very easy to talk to. I've met Bruce very briefly when he was doing a book signing in Newcastle, but he seemed lovely and wish I could have spent more time in his company but it was one of those go in, hand him the book, shake his hand, get a photo and then someone ushers you out. I was towards the back of the line so they were slightly less strict but I was only stood Infront of him for about a minute or 2. Just joked with him about how knackered he must have been after 2 hours standing there signing books

I actually got to take a couple drum lessons from Nicko. He is a great person, funny as hell and humble as could be. Met Bruce once and he was a dick….but, on the road m, tired or sick or whatever. I don’t take it personally at all. Met Adrian twice. I agree he is quiet and almost shy in a way but very humble. Normal dudes.

No, according to Steve Harris, the 'X Factor' album was written after Blaze Bayley joined the band... Harris was going thru a divorce and some personal struggles in 1993 - '94, so he said the songs for the album were written w/ Blaze in mind... it made sense cos the album was darker and less melodic. Blaze's voice kinda matched the dark overtones of that album. For his part, Blaze Bayley said he wasn't the best songwriter, even w/ years as the singer of Wolfsbane... but he learned a LOT about songwriting from Harris and the others... he is quite proud of writing 'Man on the edge' w/ Janick Gers, which became the album's first single. He was happy to come into the studio, listen to what Harris and the others were coming up with... and then putting his input and lyrics. Bruce Dickinson did sound good on 'Sign of the cross'... the band played it in its entirety in the concert (w/ the chants) but the video was edited. But it did show that Blaze did a fairly good job singing on the the studio version, cos Dickinson had to push his voice to pull off the track in concert... it was not an easy song to perform for any singer, for sure...

One of my favourite Blaze Baily era Maiden songs, live with Bruce it's incredible, I saw them live in 2018 and 2022 and they played it then, it's unbelievable live especially when the flash bangs went off in the middle of it, and yeah Nicko is NUTS🤘🤘🤘

Like many other faithful Maiden fans, the X-Factor came and went for me; never really listened to it. Then when I heard Sign of the Cross live in 2019, I fell in love with the song. Definitely a very good, classic-sounding, Maiden epic rocker!

I can only listen to this version of Sign of The Cross and The Clansman. The sound is so much heavier and complete, it doesn’t sound hollow if that makes sense. How I see them: Nicko: Mad as a box of frogs and his drumming is incredible. As you said his single pedal method is incredible. Janick: box of frogs no2, let’s his body just go where the music wants it too. Aggressive lead guitarist Davey: Mr chill which comes across in his guitar playing. Smooth like butter and him and Janick compliment each other so well when they are duelling those solos. Adrian: the powerhouse, his heavy guitar sitting under Janick and Davey fills the sound so much. You can see how heavily Adi is embedded into the music Stevey H: Mr Iron Maiden: incredible bassist. Incredible songwriter. Holds the whole thing together with epic levels Bruce: Mr Theatre: what a voice, just a 10/10 performer. The ultimate frontman

When I first got into Iron Maiden, I bought the Best of the Beast compilation. It has songs from Dickinson, DiAnno and Bailey on it, so I pretty much like it from the beginning. Bruce’s voice just blew me away though, so I gravitated more towards him than the others.

Love this live performance! Very head bang worthy especially the mid-section jam. I suggest also checking out on KZbin the video of Raphael Mendes and his band covering this. As close as you’ll get to a studio version and it’s scary how much he sounds like Bruce!

When I first listened to Iron Maiden it was 1995 (I was 9 years old) and Sign of the Cross with Blaze was my introduction to the band and I fell in love immediately with the song. I still love Blaze's version but Bruce's version was an absolute upgrade.
@sebbenilsson8602 жыл бұрын
i've always liked this song, but back when it first came out I only listened from when they're building up right before the uptempo section. But listening to this live is a complete different experience. Iron Maiden is a liveband and Bruce is a real story teller on stage. He's always telling a story to the audience, and it always feels like he means what he's trying to tell you. I checked out your reaction from Dream of Mirrors right before this one and I agree with you on Janick. I wasn't much fan of him and underrated him a lot until I saw what he actually does live. He's crazy live with all the guitar flips, dances, jumping and playing at the same time. For example the riff after the solos here he's playing, jumping and dancing at the same time. He's a very, how to say it, "mashy" guitarist in his solos. He picks almost every single note when he plays, which makes it hard to hear what he's actually playing sometimes. Dave is an incredibly solid legato guitarist and Adrian is all over the place, my absolute favourite guitar player of them. Mostly because his solos are always so interesting and unique. He's a very technical guitarist. Nicko and Steve are just fantastic as well. Iron Maiden is the reason I wanted to learn how to play the guitar. I'm so thankful for that. I've seen them 7-8 times now. Last time was in Sweden, Gothenburg 22 July this year and it was the best concert I've ever been to. If you get the chance to see them live, do it. I hope you'll do more Maiden reactions in the future! I also love your stankface during Dave's tapping solo part. Great reaction! Up The Irons! ❤

I thought you would change your mind from the studio version to this live version in Rio, its just an amazing performance and Bruce definitely adds so much to the song. By the way, went yesterday to the Mexico concert and it was amazing even for a fan of many years like me. Nice hair cut mate I really love this song even with blaze on it but with Bruce and the 3 guitars took it to a different level in my view it’s a shame Bruce didn’t have his cross in this performance because the shows I saw on this tour he came up on a cross before he started singing which was cool 😎

Awesome song live. Fans liked it so much the band also included it in the setlist on their 'Legacy of the Beast' tour. The Rock in Rio version you just watched is pretty much the same length as the album version, it's just that uploader has cut a large section of the intro out. This was also the case for 'The Wicker Man' as you didn't get to see a birds eye view of the venue filling up to capacity and the band arriving via helicopter. 🚁👍

This is one of the best performances ever of this song. However, I really dig the studio version because this is a great song overall. Like I said before, you entered the Blaze era with soooo much prejudice. I am quite sure you would like some of the songs more if you give them a relisten.

This is a good example of why Maiden are considered at their best live. The songs are given new life that just can't be caught on a studio recording. I've said on a previous video that this era of Maiden didn't interest me at the time and I never got into their studio recordings since. But I have seen them live a few times and they never disappoint regardless of the set list, whether it be classic songs or newer ones. The last time I saw them was 5 years ago on The Book of Souls tour and I wasn't familiar with a good portion of the set list but just watching these guys perform is awesome.

As much as I love the live version, I still perfer the studio cause Blaze fits better because that was his song. His deep and more softer voice gives the song a more eerie and dark feeling, and also in my opinion the production does work with the song just as well. 🤘

I think you like this more because of the production compared to the sterile sound on X factor. The visuals also help. However I think this song suits blaze because of his low register. You also have Adrian Smith in the mix. Probably a bit unfair to pin all the difference onto Blaze Bailey when other ‘factors’ are contributing to the difference in sound. Great reaction though Hurm1t, keep ‘em coming 🤘

Blaze vs Bruce. Blaze vocal delivery is like little package of kool-aid desolved in a galon of water, is there but not whole, not as rich for a song like this, that requires Bruce's vocals, power, and projection, specially in front of about 200,000 fans in Brazil
@animoley80122 жыл бұрын
I liked it on the album, but I love it live and with Bruce singing it. The guitars drums everything is so much more distinct and punchy on this live performance, and Bruce’s voice makes it a much more interesting listening experience as he has additional range to play with. Also the X Factor songs I’m pretty sure were written mainly for Blaze and he has writing credits on some which I think shows as he sings those X Factor songs much better than anything else Maiden has done previous, and u can tell Bruce doesn’t quite hit the lowest notes in the spoken intro and outro like blaze, but who gives a fuck right!

I always liked the song, but this version does offer more advantages other than the obvious inclusion of Bruce. In this live mix, you can distinctly hear the three guitars. In the stripped down mix of X Factor, a lot of the time it sounds like there’s only one guitar when there’s not a solo or melody happening. That makes this live sound more rich, fuller and therefore more epic. The live crowd singing along adds to the energy where the studio sounds pretty solemn at times. And the production quality on this live album is also top notch, everyone sounds good, everyone is present. Bruce is always great. I don’t hate on Blaze, he put his stamp on several of these songs but boy it’s just nigh impossible to fill Bruce’s boots.
