Hey! This was when the Weather Channel really WAS a weather channel. They did 21-24 hours of full broadcasting on their station. The Weather Channel did NOT have any of the so called shows of today! Love the old days!

Back when they didn't purposely try to over exaggerate everything. I read an interview a few weeks ago from a guy in the Bahamas after hurricane Dorian hit then which was a Super category 5 bc a Cat 5 starts at winds of 140-150mph I think and it had winds of 190-200mph with gusts up to 210-215mph and the highest recorded gusts were somewhere around 220 or higher which is absolutely insane but in the interview that was written bc you know the guy didn't say half of what they put they said that as they were sitting in the roofs his son was blown off by a wind gust into the storm surge water and he lost him in it and drowned body was never recovered like that part is 100%true and absolutely devastating and sad but they proceeded to add that the guy said there were sharks all in the water and actively hunting them which complete bullshit bc anytime a hurricane comes ever shark and fish go str8 out to sea and dive as deep as they can go bc the current and storm surge would toss them around underwater like a rag doll and between that and all the debris in the water getting washed around would make it impossible for them to navigate safely without getting injured or killed bc the waters were only 10ft deep where the house were they hid in the attics at which is deep for us but not for sharks so that would make the current 10x worse in shallow waters and with all that water moving sand and debris the distance of vision underwater would be like 6in at best so they wouldn't be able to even see to hunt and besides that the most annoying part was when they said the sharks were actively hunting humans...... sharks don't hunt humans period bc we're not apart of their diet if we were then no one would be able to swim in the oceans ever bc there's always at least 1 shark within 100 yards of you in the oceans at all times whether it's 1ft 10ft or 20ft long sooo yeah I've been surfing for almost 20 years now and I've seen my fair share of sharks and they've never bothered me let alone "actively hunt" me. But it's reports like those that really really piss me off and prove that either they do it for more views or just don't have a fucking clue of what they're talking about period. Do gtag the weather channel nowadays is completely and total bullshit and half the time they have not a fucking clue of where the hurricane is going or what the hell it's doing whether it's going to strengthen or not they're completely clueless especially when they were tracking Dorian. But regardless let's all pray that the Bahamas get the proper help and assistance they need and that they are able to rebuild without anymore hurricane or storms hitting them this year before the season is over.

@@ethanbell7283 Your whole dissertation is full of ignorance. They are doing no more than needed to be done to warn the public. Andrew was a fucking nightmare and many thought they wouldn't make it thru the night including myself. Roofs blown off, houses caving in, the wind was so strong that it blew my front door open!!! And don't let me talk about Wilma. She was utterly just wind for 24hrs. I could hear trees snapping, electrical line sizzling, etc. I rather prepare & the storm changes course than to not prepare and end of dead. Now if they didn't warn us then you people would complain about that. These people are men & women who do their best but a hurricane can change course in seconds. One moment it's coming & 24 hrs later it has changed course. It's people like you who if lost everything including loved ones because you that it was a joke that I wouldn't give a damn about u suffering.

This little Hurricane went against all the odds...and did so at just the right time of year. Initially, they thought that Andrew was a Cat 4 Hurricane. Not so! This little powerhouse had, indeed, strengthened to a Cat 5, and tore through Florida like a friggin' Buzzsaw! When it was all said & done, Florida had been ripped up so badly, that it took quite awhile for things to get back to normal!

Bryan Norcross became a national figure for his forecasts of Hurricane Andrew. Some of his reports were nationally broadcast, and being in Boston, Norcross reminded me of a young Don Kent (perhaps the best meteorologist in Boston TV history), because Norcross is, like Kent was, informative without hype.

I was living near the coast in southeastern Central FL at the time, and I remember my parents taking this storm VERY seriously. I'd never seen them bother to prepare the house (right down to my mom scrubbing the bathtub so she could fill it up with water). I was eight. I remember standing in the bathroom watching her work. It was the first time in my young life that I contemplated what it would be like to lose a house. When I saw what happened down south, I didn't sleep for days.

Its pretty telling how sometimes some METS just dont get it. Early on in this video; Dr Bob Sheets stated emphatically that he did not see any reason for the deviation of the due west track, no indications from forecasts showed the steering breaking down in a way to turn the storm away. The guy on channel 10 then says a movement due west is highly unlikely over the next 2 days, despite what Bob Sheets had said earlier in the day

How could the meteorologist at Channel 10 have gotten it so wrong? I know he was looking at the same data as everyone else, so what made him think the storm wasn't likely to keep heading west? Bob Sheets himself said that's what the models were indicating.

Because after the hurricanes that come off the west coast of mexico move to the west they mostly end up going into cooler waters and die out, and they do name them. There are times when they would loop back to the coast, but very infrequently.

Your right! That was Miami TV station channel -10 (ABC) Weatherman Don Noe who made that stupid comment. He was the only South Florida Weatherman to predict that Andrew would re-curve to the North and miss Florida. Don has since retired from Television News but when he did work at Channel-10 I met him a couple of times and got the impression that he hated what he did for a living and hated even talking about any Hurricane hitting Florida because then he'd have to work overtime. A real Jack-Ass!

@moviemagg
@moviemagg 8 жыл бұрын
+gj804 Your wrong! Hurricane Camile in Aug.1969 along the Gulf Coast had sustained winds of 190-MPH and the Great LaborDay Hurricane of Sept.1935 in the middle Florida Keys had sustained winds of 185-MPH. Both of these storms produced wind gusts just over 200-MPH as well. Hurricane Charley was a potent little storm when it made landfall on the SW coast of Florida but was no where near the intensity of the two I just spoke of.

Charley came ashore at140 145. Suprised the shit out of many sw floridians who i would assume were not born floridians. When you have a 140 mph storm 40 miles off the coast you better be ready to deal with in in 1 or 2 hours. It was supposed to go up to tamppaand curve ne.. instead it took a ne turn and was onshore in less than two hours. In daytona beach. I was watching because you can never tell what these storms will do.my mother was in chicago i called her and told her that it looks like it will come right up the I 4 corridor. She said i was worring too much. I went to her house took all things out of florida room . Into living room which has 8 sliding glass doors. She live in a subdivision called tomoka Oaks. Had 8 60 to 70 foot trees surrounding house no safe place in that house . Went to a friends house in port orange 10 miles south. Came ashore noon traveled about 250 miles over land.got to daytona about 9 eye about midnight. Gust only about 100 105. But a steady 80 85 mph winds. It pruned alot of trees. Power was out for 3 10 days. That was a glancing blow.. when a storm goes from below 1 to a three in 36 hrs it is only going to get stonger. The water gets warmer the closer you get to land. People were lucky that Andrew was not that big and it moved fast
