Yeah, this Hurricane opened my eyes to how they deal with debris. I didn't know trucks like this existed until Helene hit. Thanks for the comment!

Can you explain the scan in process? I see you go up in a lift, what is that for? How do the companies get paid? Buy the load or weight? Thanks

Well the whole process starts before the truck ever gets to the dumpsite. First the debris pile is located within the county right of way and verified by a person employed with our company, the debris piles are photographed and location tagged via an iPad with a certain program that geo-locates it. Then another person is assigned to a truck, and that truck is given the location of the debris piles to be picked up. The other person assigned to that truck photographs the truck after it has finished loading and geo-tags that image, and gives the truck the paper tickets that are scanned into the system. The truck driver then takes those paper tickets with them to the dump. When the truck gets to the dump-site he gives those tickets to one of us on the ground, we then scan those tickets into the system as the person in the lift photographs and scores the load of debris from above. That's how the truck company gets paid, based off of a percentage full it is calculated down to a Cubic Yard, the trailers are all measured before hand and their capacity is noted and it's scanned into the barcode that we scan on the truck or trailer. The truck then goes and unloads at the dump site and is then scanned out to make sure it has emptied out it's load and is leaving empty. It's a process to ensure that the County and Federal Government are getting what they are paying for as far as the debris removal goes. It seems like alot, but it's actually a pretty good system. The photos are reviewed in the office for accuracy and there are multiple checks and balances to ensure that the system is working as intended.
