One of my co-workers took a weekend trip to Florida last month. I don't know the route they took but she said seeing the damage from Helene was heartbreaking, that seeing it on the news was nothing like seeing it firsthand.

It's true. I live just a half mile from French Broad but because I've not been able to get out and drive, I was shocked by river road to Marshall two months after storm Still makes me cry. I'm praying for all who are really struggling. We are ok . Missing friends but all the damages etc and the implications of this storm will be long and far reaching . Just hope we can keep that spirit of helping each other. And that my health allows me to volunteer. The list of needs is online and honest orgs here. Volunteers for all counties affected have dropped off. Thirty three disasters last year..no one country can sustain that without folks pulling together. To hell with politics. People matter more. God bless y'all for caring.❤

Oh how sad too see this, I moved out West ten years ago, but Johnson City area was my home for many years, also roots in North Carolina, I visited Davey Crockets birthplace in 2007, on a beautiful summer day, many families out enjoying the park, I remember the day well, and the setting was just like stepping back in time , just a real treasure. So much devastation has taken place,,and it saddens me, today I may be far away from those places, but those TN/NC mountains are deep in my heart.♥️

Thank you for this video. I'm sure it was a difficult one to make. My Mom lives in the Jonesborough/Telford area, and I drove her to 107 a few miles away. The devastation is unreal. I have watched a lot of videos on KZbin, but nothing prepared me for seeing it with my own eyes close up. My heart breaks for all the people who were affected by this disaster. Thank you, Jen and Moon, for all you do. Keep up the good work, and may God bless you today and always.

@@tnmtngirl7576 family lives on 107 cutoff. I prayed all night wanting them to be ok. They had to open up a well that had been used a century ago. I texted their son the next morning who lives in Nashville. I don't even know how to get to afton tn without the bridge.

I have been wondering about this campground and state park. We camped there the last 3 summers. Now I know thanks to you. We are crying looking at this. I remember how wonderfully nice the campground workers were. I can not believe this. We went on the hike where the story telling posters were. Sad Sad Sad. Ryan, I am so glad you did this. The gift shop was fairly new, and now I guess that is where the pile of rubble was. We are from Florida but my wife mom and step dad took us to the birthplace in the 80s. You are right, we have our memories. thanks so much. When we retired in 07 we built a cabin near Baileyton on 11 acres we inherited from stepdad. Oh my. thanks again. Charley and Laura Kilmer from Ocala fl.

Thank you for your comment! I know it's hard to see but I appreciate that it's helpful to people who live far away to know what's going on. I hope one day to return here and show everyone how well the place has recovered (hopefully!)

So sad to see any of this land in such devastation, but it is great you have the video of how it once looked and the memories. I was trying to see if the holly tree made it, but couldn't tell. Moon is such a good dog. Best to you and Jen, your family and Moon in the New Year.

I drive down into bumpus cove area on christmas day. The devastation is crazy. I have watched lots of KZbin video's filmed in that area but seeing the area in person is so heart breaking . That poor community got washed away by helenes flood waters. I spoke wirh a man who built his house high up on the hill in Bumpus cove. Hw tils mw that thw flooding eas 32 feer abovw tge normal 12 fiirhih glood stage. So he said the wave of water was easily 44 to 50 feet high that came flowung through Bumpus cove area. That was an insane anount of water rolling along through that valley.

Sad... sorry for the loss of this historic site for East TN! Sorry for the parts that can't be brought back. The beauty of the place will return. Hopefully some replica of the historical buildings can be replaced. I know there's still much more to be rebuilt in East TN. Praying for recovery! Praying for the people

Oh... My... Gosh!!!! Davy Crockett park is also a favorite of mine! I can't believe how trashed it is! Thank you for sharing this video. I live about 1/2 mile above the Nolichucky off of 81South and the Lamar Convenience center was completely trashed, but this is first I've seen anything about Davy Crockett. I guess it means the replica of Davy Crockett's cabin is gone as well. Sad. I hope they rebuild.

Oh God, I wish now that I had stopped two years ago. Went to London KY to buy a piece of equipment for my tractor and stumbled on this place. Regrets now! 😭 Was watching the weather radar that night it came to our mountains in NC. Was so worried for TN and got the shock of a lifetime with what happened in NC. This is a generation event. Family, prepare for a long time of rebuilding.

I grew up in Johnson City, had a family farm in Jonesborough, but I moved west . I used to go tho Davy’s place before it was a State Park. Sad to see it washed out. The Crocketts lost a mill due to floods once. Do you know how Clark’s Creek is doing ? I used to do all those trails up through there past the Sally Hole.

A quiet cool place in the shade just south of Nashville, is The Crocket Family cemetary inside a stacked wall surround, It is surreal being there. It is way up on a Hill, and will never be washed away. Dolly Patrons home is a couple miles from there, and that also is a must see. WV is almost Heaven. Tennessee is Gods Greene Acres. On one visit a Hoot Owl flew over and landed with a hoot, cocked his head sideways... floated down to the ground and grabbed a mouse, bit its head off, tossed it in the air , and after a perfect 720 the Headless lunch slid down the Owls throat. I said "hello Creation" and snapped pictures.

I hope the holly tree is still there but you should have been able to see her if it was. They are evergreen and do not lose their leaves. They are incredibly slow growing so that tree was very old and probably was there when the Crockett family was there 😢 i hope it survived. We live on 30 acres between two rivers that flood every year. Our american holly trees grow wild but higher up away from the riverbanks

I loved Davey Crocket. King of the Wild Frontier. The devastation is incredible down there. 10 years is what I figure and there will be memorials built. Very sad, water is an extremely powerful force. Doesn't matter how fast, deep, when it comes it comes and you can't stop it.
