I’m about 13 minutes into this video, and it’s so heartfelt and informative. Thank you. I lived in Northern Mississippi in 1994 just south of Memphis, and we had a horrific ice storm that February.. My power was out “only” 10 days…plus I had a well, and didn’t realize that it would not work without electricity. I tried to reach my mother in Memphis and couldn’t, turns out her phone line was down. After a few days w no water, electricity, or means of cooking, I bundled my dog and cat in the car and drove to my mother’s. She didn’t have power, either, and as I said, no phone, but had a gas stove so we could keep warm and eat. Some people in my area were out of power 3 weeks. So I learned the hard way to be prepared! And there were no long lasting effects from the ice storm, and one loss of life. Glad y’all are ok, and the devastation we hear about on the news is so tragic.

I’m so glad that you both weathered the storm safely! We lived in Tennessee for a few years and it’s horrible to see the devastation left by Helene. After Harvey and the winter storm that shut down large parts of Texas, my parents in Houston made the decision to spend the money to put a generator on their house. It was a godsend during Beryl and kept 6 adults, 4 kids, and 5 dogs comfortable for days until everyone got power back. I’m afraid everyone is going to have to really prepare for these awful storms now.

❤️❤️ Glad y’all are ok! I live at Valdosta GA and this area was severely damaged. There were 3 deaths here from the storm and then my husband’s nephew took his life 9 days later as an indirect result of the storm. We luckily didn’t have any damage to our home or vehicles, just several large trees down in the yard and driveway. Our power has been off since the storm and it may still be several days before it’s restored. Thank goodness for our generator which has been running nonstop to the refrigerators and to my 94 yo mother’s room who is on hospice care and is oxygen dependent. Even with all that said, compared to the people in NC/TN we are extremely lucky and blessed. We are expecting some rain/winds from Milton. We are praying for Florida and continuing to pray for all that were affected by Helene🙏🏻.

Not drinking water but water for toilets, etc. And, I learned something new. You have to put the water in the tank, not in the toilet. I didn’t know that. Thank you. Our prayers are without ceasing. Our action from Michigan is making financial donation to Samaritan's Purse. Here, we do have generators on hand. We have many home-canned items and are working through our freezer first - and will be pulling out items from there to pressure can after the busy harvesting season. We have a water filter to use at ponds/lakes/river but want to add more. We keep 20 lbs propane tanks (about 15 of those) on hand and have small gas cans filled as we empty those (in fact, filling empty tanks/cans tomorrow). We keep batteries on hand and I just purchased several more as we found a lack of the double AAs on hand. We also have vintage oil lamps for light if we need light. We heat with wood - so, have that supply ready for winter. We do have a campfire ring and drop screen to grill over along with cast iron "oven" stock pots and frying pans and we have a gas grill. We don't have hurricanes here, but every region has weather and economic issues to prepare for and keep prepared for. The little Honda generator you have is very similar to what friends use in their home in Alaska - where they only use solar and generator to power electrical use along with firewood wood stove to heat. So many churches, individuals, groups are volunteering to help our "family" throughout these states - unsung heroes. Florida, now. Many prayers and in action of donation of financial or time or equipment or skills to help.

Thank you for sharing this video, Its Laura and Mert from Canada,our hearts, prayers,hugs and love go out to you all and everyone affected by all these hurricanes across all the areas that the U.S. has been hit hard, we can not even fathom the devestation that many familes are going through. Want to encourage you and thank you for putting out this video was so great to hear that overall you two will be o.k. and also want to encourage you to put out the videos of old footage you have, I know a tornado hit Goderich,Ontario Canada years ago and while we do not live in Goderich ourselves we know we enjoyed footage of the before the tornado and we also know locals who do enjoy looking back at the before footage of areas, (granted it was not on as huge a scale damage as these hurricanes but I think we all like seeing before footage also,who knows it may even INSPIRE others to donate to these areas that need help if they can GRASP just a little more the before and then what they see on news now MAYBE JUST MAYBE it might inspire someone...) Of course always recommend you two do whatever you feel lead to do and use whatever talents you two have been given and are prompted to do...Either way prayers and blessings from Canada P.S. Had no clue you guys had a adventure channel before this video so now going to go subscribe to it also...Bye from the both of us and big hugs...

I know somewhat of the things these friends and neighbors are going through. I had so many friends and family that lost homes on April 27, 2011 in an EF5 tornado. Like you said, those things don’t matter. It’s the 27 lives we lost that day that we will never get back. Sure I lost a lot myself that day, but I’d give it up a thousand times over not to see some of the things I saw and to get those neighbors back. My thoughts and prayers are and have been with everyone both in TN, the Carolinas and Florida as well. God Bless you all🙏🏼

So happy to see you both are fine, sadly there was so much devastation. I know many people from NorthCarolina had a severe storm the night before hurricane and flooding that they were unable to prepare for the hurricane. A lesson to us all to be at least semi-prepared. The one thing we always fail to do, is keep some cash on hand for those times when debit and credit card machines are down. Hydro Quebec sent a large contingent down to North Carolina to help crews there. My heart breaks for all the loss of life and devastation that has happened and now another hurricane is hitting Florida.

Here in SW Florida we’ve experienced many of these storms first hand, and like you, we’ve personally been fortunate with only minimal damage and power outages that have lasted less than a week. I learned after Ian to shut down my eBay shop for a minimum of a week, anticipating power outages and who knows what. Surrounding areas here were also devastated by these last two hurricanes, and the tornadoes that they brought, and the damage will take years to recover from. Many here haven’t been fully repaired from Ian two years ago, when the storm surge in some of our coastal areas rose to 18’ high. My heart breaks for all those affected and cannot imagine the horrors that they continue to experience. Very sad.

I too thought of you both as I've been watching KZbin videos as everything unfolded. Kept waiting for a video or message from you but figured your power was out. So glad to see you're safe and doing well.👍 Thank you for the preparedness light ideas. Definitely going to get a few more. Winters have the potential to be bad here in Eastern Idaho causing power issues at times. Such catastrophic devastation to those beautiful towns/areas/people.😢 Our prayers are with you all! 🙏

Vicki and Mark, I've evacuated from Bradenton and have gone inland. I live in a beautiful mobile home community and am not sure my home will be there when I return. Between Florida and further north in all the towns you've mentioned, there has been so much destruction with only more headed our way with Milton. I think it's time I head back to Virginia. These hurricanes have been getting worse!

OMG, this video truly made me realize how unprepared we are if something like this happened in our area. Also, my son and daughter-in-law have a home in Bradenton, FL. They said their home there is okay, but her brother nearby has a mess to clean up and lots of people around them got hit pretty hard. This is their 2nd home as they live near me in Turners Falls, Massachusetts (I have yet to visit their home in Florida as they have only had a short time). My son is a heart transplant recipient as of 2016. He is doing great though and reports to Boston Brig and Women's hospital every couple of months for check in, etc. My husband, Eddie, just turned 90 October 5th and we celebrated by taking him up the Mohawk Trail into Shelburne Falls where there is an antique type shop he likes to shop in and then I took him to Applebee's in Greenfield, MA. Was a nice day out! Yes, those of us who still have our homes and a warm bed, full bellies, our pets, and our health, are truly blessed and cannot take any of it for granted...I tell Eddie this every day. Glad you got through it and you did a great job explaining what works and what doesn't when the power goes out. I remember about 7 years ago or so, a terrible ice storm came through our area in October and the power went out for a few days. We used a wood burning stove that was set up on our enclosed deck (we call it the Bug House as it has a roof and lattice type walls, but also open to the elements on the sides) and we cooked our meals out there and it kept us warm during that time. I remember how good the coffee tasted in an old stove top metal coffee pot. It was actually a fun memory, haha! I have been listing fast and furious and sales are good for a few days, then quiets down for a few days...never quite know what you're going to get with Ebay. Hugs and thanks for another great video!

So glad you are safe - that's the most important thing. We are lucky to be on the east coast of Florida and only expecting Milton to come here as a Cat 1 hurricane. Power will definitely go out. We have crank radios and flashlights in addition to battery operated ones, tap lights, and most importantly for Florida...battery operated fans.

You have a good generator for the size. It's helpful to run your generator every 4 hrs for an hour or so to keep the freezers and refrigerators cold enough. I keep phone cord, plug, and a lighter adapter style phone charger in my purse always. A bright pen light too. We keep a power outage bin with heavy duty extension cords, adapter to make a cord to accept two or 3 cords, It's handy for running task lighting during longer term outages or a slow cooker. This bin is for items dedicated only for power outages. Those cords are never taken to use for other things. Extra lighting is in the bin too. An emergency hand crank radio with a solar panel will allow you to keep your phones charged and is another backup. Have you considered a butane stove that can be used indoors during very cold weather? Old smooth cast iron is good to have. You can use it with all different heat sources and with little oil, if it has been seasoned well. Consider a portable cooler style fridge/ freezer which can run from a standard cord and also 12 volt as ice may not be an option. Some can be set to use as a fridge or as freezer. Others have 2 compartments and each side set at fridge or freezer separately. Have plenty of redundancy. It helps to run your generator monthly with a load on it to keep the generator in good shape. You may already be aware of all this or maybe you found something helpful here. Hope it helps. Glad you are safe and did well through the outage.

We spend every summer in an off grid cabin in Canada. I have a few tips that may be helpful. For power we use Goal Zero Yeti portable solar generators with the Boulder solar panels. We own four and they run our entire camp. Plug and play and portable because we are not there to keep the snow off panels. Those come home with us. The panels stay at camp. We keep them plugged in at the city house so we do have power if it should go out. We have the same Honda generator. We use an old metal wheelbarrow to keep it covered. We also bought a cable lock on Amazon and a metal handle sold specifically by Honda because thieves will cut the plastic handle to steal. Prior to the purchase of our propane appliances we used butane burners to cook. The fuel and burners can be purchased on Amazon. Butane burns very hot so everything cooks quickly and the fuel and burner are portable do not take up much space. I use my gas grill indirect heat to bake in the summer and the butane burner since we don’t and will never have AC at camp. I’ve started buying Amazon brand rechargeable batteries during Prime. For light, Cosoos Original headlamps, Mcgor under cabinet lights and Goal Zero Light-A-Life chainable lights all on Amazon. A portable potty will last a week for two people if it has a large holding tank and one doesn’t place tissue inside. We have eight five gallon containers of water. Two of them have wide tops and spouts. One five gallon water lasts the two of us approximately three days. Some of the other items we have might be helpful in certain situations. A gasoline powered Honda water pump and a portable tankless water heater. We have a backup for everything because we are remote.

Forgot to add, as you said to be sure you have plenty of long outdoor extension cords and all the cords you need to charge everything. I have so many different battery operated items that I have placed all the cords in one location inside individual labeled ziplock bags. I also have a charge cord for my phone in my truck that stays there. Fuel stabilizer so you can store fuel for emergencies. We use marine fuel in all of our small engines.

We are strong and we will take care of our neighbors and those who are not able to travel due to road conditions. I am just up from you in Damascus Virginia and our town was hit hard as well. We are blessed to be alive but so many lost their homes and businesses. I lost both my home and job but have managed to save my vintage collection that was above 15”. Now I’m trying to figure out what to do with it. Last night I decided to take photos and hopefully resell it eventually or consign. Never in a million years thought I would flood and never sell my treasures. If you or anyone has any suggestions, I would be so grateful for any suggestions or advice. It kills me to let it go but I’m accepting my fate and letting it go..it’s okay because it’s just stuff.

Last summer we had a lot of storms and we lost power a lot. Maybe 5 or 6 times. Since then I have wanted to get a generator. But my husband is a glass full type of guy and doesnt want to spend money on a generator. I dont know how to run a gas generator. Can you just plug your refridgerator into them? or do you have to flip your breakers off or have some kind of switch? I have been looking at the solar generators but they r kind of expensive. One like you guys have I dont know if it will power our full size refridgerator? Well suffice it to say we still dont have one. We do have a lantern that can be powered by solar, batteries or electricty. We do have a small charger that can jump your car or inflate your tires or charge a cell phone, but it doesnt seem to hold a charge a long time. I am trying. Hubby not into it. I will probably buy a solar generator eventually like ecoflow. ( I did notice your generator said invertor on it, and I have read up.on those and they r confusing to me) sigh. older but trying. Glad you had your stuff and did ok.
@AvanteAvenue
@AvanteAvenue 3 ай бұрын
It sounds like you may have to take the initiative to make it happen. Our generator is an "Invertor." That means is has a balanced/steady flow of current that is best for electronics. We can also add on to it. It is also quieter than others (I did turn down the volume for the video). With that said, it is also cost several hundred dollars more than some of the larger ones. We tried to buy another at Lowes this week but they were out. We wouldn't buy solar because there could be "no sun" to power it (speaking for ourselves only). As far as your hubby not interested in it, well....Mark doesn't know (and has no interest) in learning how to edit videos but I do. ;-) Thank you.
