It’s so amazing to see how these delicate palm trees withstand winds that would knock over a giant oak tree which I did in my neighbors yard. I just love palm trees are the main reason I’m down here. I’ve been down here over 28 years & I have to say this is absolutely the worst storm I have ever been through. The repercussions of this storm will go on for a very long time. 😢

Great video. I see it’s very difficult to capture exactly how strong that hurricane was. The sound of the wind on my house was the scariest sound I’ve ever heard. Just screaming wind and a few times I heard a freight train just passing by. Nightmare stuff. After seeing what the storm surge did to Fort Myers I will always get out of the way of any hurricane in the future. Thanks for uploading

The backside was definitely stronger, probably from a mix of some mesovorticies, and also strong eyewall mixing from a large burst of convection that formed right as Ian made Landfall

As soon as you said you were staying in Punta Gorda, I went audibly went "Oh, no!". I live in Port Charlotte and this thing sounded like a bear was in my house just tossing my belongings around. Ian to a good 1/4 of my roof and busted in a window. Thankfully my family and the rest of the house are fine. I definitely faired better than some of my neighbors.

Glad your okay! This was my first hurricane as I never lived in hurricane proned areas. Subs motivated me to go after Ian and I have to say I was legit speechless with how powerful these hurricanes can really be. Once again so happy you're okay!

Another great one ! I suspect that Ian will be leveled up after surveyors finish inspecting the damage. ( Much like Michael was upgraded after the fact) We need to figure out messaging that will get through to people. The messaging was there. But Floridians are so storm hardened that they think they'll survive anything. You see similar attitudes in tornado alley and Dixie alley. How do we get through to them?

@@MesoHunterYT that's what bothers me, when people don't listen and the meteorology community is left felling that they should have done more. I don't want to victim blame but the message was there. But now people are blaming the emergency planners and managers. It's frustrating and I feel that lives were lost that shouldn't have been.

I live in Venice, Florida, and man, I can tell you, Ian was an experience none of us will forget. Thank you for taking the time to stop here and take some videos before the storm. We didn't (for obvious reasons) venture out much so I never really got to see what was happening.

​@@MesoHunterYT Getting better! As you know it can take years to completely heal the landscape after a storm of this magnitude. Will say this, even as a former meteorology student, nothing can prepare you for your first Major Hurricane. 1s and 2s, we've had those, but a borderline 4/5... it's a whole different level. Glad y'all stayed safe while you were in the area! The Flooding was really bad in this area, especially where the eyewall lingered. We were lucky, my home stayed just above the waterline and my grandparents' house did as well, albeit with a very tiny amount coming in the garage. So many others lost everything, But what can you do. 20" of rain and 130-150 mph wind gusts are... intense to say the least. We made it through though!
