The main thing we really need to be focused on is the amount of water that the ground can hold. Here in Central Florida we have a lot of oak trees that do not have deep roots. Once the ground becomes saturated these trees are going to topple over.

Then after they get thru the first one, they will have a better understanding of how to prepare and how their area is impacted by a hurricane so they will know for next time. Yes we have snow up here in the North. Occasional blizzards. But we do not have 100 mile an hour winds, or street signs and roofs blowing around. Seldom does someone die due to the weather. You can go outside in the summer and not sweat your genitals off. See you in the winter. So it is a trade off. But we do not have hurricanes or storm surge. broken levies, massive floods, or anything like it.

You live in Florida...Texas...the Caribbean...you know all about the risk that comes with living there with respect to hurricanes; tropical depressions; storm surge; alot of water!! None of this is new to you!! No one has to tell you the damage that can be associated with a hurricane. The higher the category ( 1 to 5 ) the more damage it will inflict! Just be thankful that you get a week's notice of its arrival as opposed to ten minutes with an F3 tornado!!

There was one hurricane, a long time ago, that headed towards Kill Devil Hills where the Wright Brothers took off from.
