I remember hearing the news say Katrina will hit tomorrow then looked out the window and watched all the light poles explode like nothing, but those Palm trees where just eating that shit like it was nothing, even saw somebody's roof land in my yard, I looked back at the TV hearing the camera man and news lady screaming and running saying IVE JUST BEEN ALERTED THAT THE THE STORM IS HERE, THE STORM IS HERE ITS HERE!!!! The worst part was me and my sister were kids at the time going through our first hurricane at our grandma house by ourselfs because my grandma didn't know the storm was gonna hit that day, she was at the store collecting food and stuff and got hit by the storm miles away from us. The worse part was, we literally got hit by the eye on my first hurricane to remember. I've been through hurricanes before but never knowingly, but I got to know Katrina and that left horrifying memory's while praying my grandma got back in time.

@@hot_shot_suaceboss6556 it was horrifying, but it was a rush and even though I was scared shitless it was a good memory specially cause I didn't die, but also every other hurricane wasn't as scary to me. And I get to enjoy those rare moments when the whole city lights was out and I got to see what the night sky really looks like with hurricane Katrina and Wilma and those next few days was nothing but fun and hanging out with the other kids on my street.

I remember that a pastor in my church was calling Katrina, Andrew's little sister. When she came to Florida, she was a category 1 not a breeze and did some damage. We didn't imagine that Katrina would ended being to be Andrew's Big sister. She destroyed Louisiana and surpassed Andrew as worst hurricane in history.

@@wafflethefurry6683 The costliest and arguably most notorious storm in modern American history, Katrina made landfall in South Florida as a category 1 hurricane. It then quickly amassed speed all the way to category 5, before coming back down to category 3 as it entered Louisiana and Mississippi. In the Greater New Orleans region, a region-wide storm surge-- and what has since been revealed to be shoddy engineering and reckless cost-cutting-- led to a systemic failure in New Orleans’s levee system. 80% of the city was flooded, leading to just under 2,000 fatalities and severe structural damage estimated at a staggering $161 billion (compared to $3.4 billion the Bahamas.

Yea because it was gonna hit Orlando head on at first and I cheered for joy, then it literally said fuck that I'm going for the ass and went straight down at a 90 degree angle and head everybody literally thinking it was gonna hit land a day later, I remember looking at the news while the news lady was at the beach saying this. I looked out the window waiting for my grandma to get back from the store getting prepared for the storm and saw light poles exploding, then I looked back at the TV and I literally saw the camera man and news lady running to the news van for their life's saying they've just been alerted that the storm is hitting NOW!, I looked at my sister and started shitting myself thinking, my grandma doesn't know the storm is here, and I was about to start crying because we just kids alone at the house, poles are exploding just from the storm alone, I don't wanna die it was like an hour or 2 before she got back to the house and I remember helping her get everything in and the rain was so painful for me to take it hurts I never knew a rain storm could have been so terrifying. Long story short, my house was covered by somebody else's roof, people died, and no storm after that ever scared me ever again, I know have a permanent fear of lighting and hurricane Wilma was the best hurricane that ever happened to me after katrina, it made me realize this storm ain't shit compared to metal poles exploding and flying out the ground.

It was bad before the levees broke. it got worse after. it was a category 5 storm when it hit them. Crazy thing is scientists had did a simulation of a storm a year before katrina hit. The simulation was of a category 5 hurricane named "Pam", from that simulation they predicted the disaster that such a storm could create. I can remember if the predicted the levees breaking from such a strong storm but I think they did.

Ok 2 questions. I watched your video of this in Mississippi as well. How did you get there so quick and manager to catch the worst in Mississippi?? ....There's no way any planes were takin off, and those states arent exactly CLOSE. But your driving thru a damn hurricane. How the hell did you get there?? And 2nd, how fast were those winds? Gotta b atleast 50mph. How man a 200lbs person stand there and resist the wind, but a 700lbs pound tree can be shifted?? ....Thats weird

Lol? Katrina crossed Florida on Thursday, August 25th as a Cat 1. It entered the gulf and strengthened to a Cat 5 before changing course for Louisiana and made landfall Monday, August 29th as a Cat 3. So this guy had about 4 days to drive to Mississippi. And when you're driving into a storm, there is generally less traffic. So no, he didn't drive like a bat out of hell. You should try googling your questions first next time. This site also has their wind speeds for you to look up. Enjoy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Hurricane_Katrina

It's just a big fun game to lean into the wind when you can take shelter nearby...but get caught with no protection, with nothing to hang onto and a higher wind velocity, and it's no game anymore.

Those are fools playing around. This is what happens --> Debris flying at high speed hits you or cuts your to the point where first responders need to be re-routed from flood areas to now picking their dumb ass and taking them to hospital. Its sad and foolish as we have to deal with people like that. I have been in countless hurricanes and have seen small peaces of wood or signs becoming a flying kitchen knife.

Dude I was 2 at the time and I remember wanting to play in the rain little did I know it was a cat 5, I was with my friends because we were daycare buddies and we actually survived because we were on a sleepover well not really we just looked out the window in fear and then we fell asleep during the eye, then later on some of the roof came off then I started crying then I fell asleep then I saw all the flooding, my friend was gone because her mom came to get her at 5 am. Me and my other friend went in the attic and rode a canoe it was fun but really scary.
