Thank you for posting...I selectively have been watching Katrina/Rita videos to progressively deal with PTSD I am MUCH better. But facing the reality again is still stressful...GREAT JOB!

I was chasing with Jim Edds and Jeff Gammons on this storm. Absolutely devastating to say the least. Even as a storm chaser this storm gave me nightmares for many months afterwards. Jim did an exceptional job at covering this storm.

Thank you for sharing this! You did a great job. I wouldn't of been out in that. That camera you had on the ground I recognized the sound of the water hitting it I fell in the lake several times as a kid and couldn't swim so I got that sound ingrained in my memory. Gave me goosebumps & flashbacks My condolences to everyone that lost loved ones or lost everything in this disaster!

I can’t believe it’s now been 17 years since that Catastrophic Storm. What Camille didn’t Finish, Katrina did. I hope the Mississippi Coast NEVER experiences neither Hurricane ever again. Hurricane Ida was extremely close but Thank God it went West. Sorry Louisiana, but after Katrina, no more!

Aqua Vision miniDV camcorder housing that I modified. Mainly designed for scuba diving. It had a wide angle lens but a zoom feature. The best of both worlds. Got the idea from a friend Mark Rackley of Wild Boys & JackAss fame. GoPros are nice but too wide and no zoom for the times you need it. Flexibility is key in a storm. Thanks for watching.

i dont believe that could have been in Alabama... There wasn't any towns or cities in Alabama with that catastrophic of damage. The towns along the Mississippi coastline were catastrophically damaged though. places like biloxi and Gulfport ms were catastrophically damaged.

They totally left off a lot of cities in Mississippi that was ambushed and destroyed and it wasn't because of no old broken down levees. It was real destruction all up the coast of Mississippi all the way to Jackson.

i'm curious how the colliseum sustained such minimal damage being so close to the gulf? when the casino boat was dragged like 500 feet into land..
@JimEdds10 жыл бұрын
Coliseum was flooded with about 3.5 feet of water. The Casino barge was pushed up to the nearby Holiday Inn that was just south and west of the Coliseum. It's easy to float a structure if it's not tethered like the Casino barge. Also round structures do well in wind and water vs a straight structure. But I wouldn't say the Coliseum sustained minimal damage - the bottom floor windows were all knocked out, inside ruined by saltwater. The structure itself was intact though. Remains to be seen what would have happened in a 175mph sustained Katrina. I think it would have made it but wind would have been circulating inside big time. We had a concrete walled room on the 2nd floor as a final safe room worst case scenario.
@anthonybaruch861810 жыл бұрын
thanks for the reply.. that must have been intense.. the storm surge would have scared me the most!
@JimEdds10 жыл бұрын
Anthony Baruch something else I forgot to mention . . . the barge had a draft of probably 8 feet I'm guessing so it hit bottom and stopped it's inland march sooner. Otherwise it might have gone past the coliseum. If the barge had hit the coliseum we would have been in big trouble. Good question Anthony.
