The flooding in both Tennessee and North Carolina has been catastrophic with many lives lost as the remnants of Helene slowly dies out. Some of the videos circulating around KZbin are utterly heartbreaking. We should never underestimate the utter havoc these tropical systems can bring so far away from the coastline.

I was visiting the Asheville area with my family last week. We were staying in a mountain cabin in Old Fort, NC. Originally from Florida, I kept my eye on the storm. It was this channel (along with another) that helped me decide to cut our trip short and leave Thursday afternoon, braving the rainy mountain road conditions and driving back home to Atlanta. If it weren't for your forecast, we would'nt have left early. Who knows how my family would have fared had we stayed? Thank you!! Your videos are so educational and informative. You do good work!!!

I hear you! We are in a small town-old fishing village- next to St. Petersburg FL. Places not near the beaches flooded. We had a shortage of reasonable housing already, and there is no place to be found for rent for a few weeks to a month for those suddenly homeless. It is so difficult to watch friends lose their business, cars and a home all at once. FL is a state like Swiss cheese; lots of lakes, swamps and rivers. You don’t have to live on the beach to flood. Investors come in and cover everything in concrete, and it isn’t affordable or sustainable. Every year St. Pete dumps sewage water into our bay. Investors take none of this into consideration. We are well past the infrastructure being able to handle what was here already. Helene made this a nightmare, and should show our politicians they need to make infrastructure a priority! We had-and still have- many neighborhoods far away from the beach that still cannot use water, take showers or flush toilets, and have no electricity, lost cars (you may be safe on the 5th floor of an apartment building, but your car is in the garage underground). Nothing is worse than a nighttime hurricane or tornado, I think. It makes the situations so disorienting and more difficult for everyone. People evacuated mostly, but in FL there are only so many places to go and places away from the shoreline seem to be taking those hits, as well. Now the entire Gulf Coast region and eastern seaboard seems like it is all taking more and more hits.
