I did cleanup efforts for Hurricane Ian, and it definitely changes the way you look at storms and even your own life. When you see it on KZbin your initial reaction is “Oh damn, that sucks”, but when you actually step into that zone where people were impacted, it hits deep. And it hits hard. I was working for P.E.R.T for rescue and clean up efforts, 3am -9pm. Saved a family.

My brother lives in near Jacksonville, FL. He was stationed there when he was serving in the Navy the last five years of his twenty years, he’s retired but he doesn’t want to move back where most of our family lives in California, him and his wife and daughter love it there, but our mom worries when they have hurricanes but my brother and his family are still safe and reassures mom that they’re all good and safe. It just looks scary! I like to watch a good lightning show, whenever we actually get one in California... we all oooh and aww! Lol 😉⚡️⛈

This is some of the best footage of this phenomenon I’ve seen yet. I think this is how the fires in Maui started. Thanks for sharing!

That is pretty much how they did. Nobody stops to look at the power grid closely, if you did and saw all the poles that need to be replaced, you would be shocked.

I'm curious if most of this was foreign objects (branches, debris) creating arc faults, or if most of these arc faults were due to conductor gallop strictly because of the winds.

Matthew was a slow mover. I’m in coastal South Carolina region and that was the longest night/day of my life. Not sure but it seemed like a good 12-14 hours at least before the winds began to die down. Isaias was a fast mover, it lasted only 3-4 hours for me.

Gabriella Naylor They did in Charleston SC before Hugo in 89. I lived through all that. If you're right, then society has become much dumber than they used to be.

Right, that makes sense to me with the mandatory evacuation. I did read that the governor (at least here in Florida) has the authority to cut a power grid prior to or during a storm. In my experience with hurricane Hugo, it was a Cat 4 and hit us head-on. It was pretty extreme, which I'm sure is why they cut power just before the storm hit. I was living on the Air Force base, so it's possible it may have just been a military thing too.

Why are the power lines sparking ? For I never see that hear in California is it the winds or the rain hitting the lines
@BenjaminEsposti
@BenjaminEsposti 7 жыл бұрын
It's because branches and stuff are being blown through the air. They conduct electricity ... boom, you get a short circuit, which makes a lot of sparks. (We're talking about megawatts of energy here!...)
