It seems like they underplayed Helene, and overplayed Milton.

to be fair, at some point Milton was a very VERY dangerous storm that downgraded before landfall. a similar thing happened with Patricia back in 2013 as I recall (I was in Puerto Vallarta at the time), it was the most dangerous Pacific hurricane ever recorded but downgraded in a flash once it hit Mexico's coast due to the terrain.

@@KC-2049 I say this with all due respect. I would imagine that anybody who was impacted by any one of the 25+ tornadoes that touched down throughout central Florida appreciate following the evacuation orders of an "overplayed" Cat 3 (at landfall) hurricane. It's kind of hard (and ignorant) to state that a storm that had (at one point) nearly 200 MPH winds, and made landfall with 120 MPH winds is "overplayed" - especially when you're talking about impacted communities still cleaning up from Helene.

Milton was insane. The beach that was already ruined won't show damage but the flooding inland from Milton was nothing like I've experienced. I'm like 40 miles in land and the flooding was 3' from the front door.

The whole state, whether 150 feet from the ocean or 150 miles away is and has been repeatedly damaged by hurricanes hitting the Florida coast. The WHOLE PENINSULA is flat as a pancake from coast to coast, a Tornado Freeway between the Gulf of Mexico and the South Atlantic. Beaches must be heaven for treasure hunters now BTW after everybody is taken care of again.

There are plenty of communities further inland that have lines on the sides of their houses from debris, that was floating on the water, indicating there was 5-6 feet of flooding from the storm surge... So it wasn't just houses on the beach.

well Mr. Engineer. It is impossible to put main lines underground. Due to the FACT that main electric feeder lines need air to cool the "line". If high KW lines were underground, they would burn themselves out. Cost would be more that 50 times what over head lines would cost. Plus, there would have to be coolant constantly pumped through the conduit that would have to house the line. That would mean cooling stations and a break would create an environmental disaster. Now do you get it?

Congratulations Florida I see that they are only showing the prominent rich areas. Very nice islands with homes so I don't think this is the working class but hey America right. You know when I hear people say that they will rebuild and they said what confidence then you know they will receive incentives from the state and the federal government unlike the working class Floridians. The media will make sure you sympathize with these people when the rest of Floridians will not receive the same funding and the same media coverage. Okay now people donate to the Red Cross until all of these other organizations that just take your money. I don't know what the other ones but when the media tells you that you should donate to these organizations then those are the ones you need to donate to or just help your damn neighbors and donate to them and people around your area.

I personally feel like they need to stop encouraging people to rebuild an areas that they know are going to have hurricanes and tornadoes every single year. It makes no sense. This is not land that should be built on its wetlands and the ocean reclaims it every year. It is common sense. I don’t get it. Why do people want to waste their money rebuilding when they could just get some land or a piece of property somewhere else and go visit the beach when they want to be at the beach. You can live in the beach in California, but you’re gonna spend triple or quadruple the money but you don’t have to worry about a hurricane or a tornado only earthquake occasionally, and only last a few seconds

A lot of the stuff in that pile looks like it is still usable or could be fixed with a little glue. I try to recycle everything and it is a shame to see what people throw away. All that metal from beds can be taken to the metal scrap yard to recycle. I recycle everything from my old dishwasher to old BBQ, washer, dryer, hot water tank and car parts. Even wood should be recycled and houses should be deconstructed and not demolished. When I build any project, I screw it together, so that it can be unscrewed with not damaging the wood.

Relocate where though? Anywhere you go, you face natural disasters of some sort. Tornados, hurricanes, wildfire, earthquakes and tsunamis, on and on. I live in the Yukon and all summer is tense from risk of fire, spring it's flooding.

First of all I am very happy to hear that it was not as bad as foreseen! What I will never understand is, why do you build most of your houses with light wood and often without fundament?! It is easy talking about being resilient and rebuilding when you have enough money in your pocket. What about the ones who cannot afford building a new house after every hurricane?

Good luck getting home insurance after these climate-crisis fed hurricanes! Humans need to consider where they plant their roots in a new era of climate-crisis: fires, floods, tornadoes, droughts, etc.

Even if the climate isn't enough to convince people to leave the prospect of dying in a dirt hole 500 feet down seconds after going to sleep in your bedroom would even prevent me from even visiting central Florida, because the whole region is dotted with sinkholes.

Breaking news, a pile of pallets fell over you guys are really reaching. It’s a hurricane there is gonna be some damage. It’s one of the downsides of living on a coast. Just like a downside of living in the beautiful mountains is fires. This isn’t entertainment television you’re not supposed to make disaster movie trailers. You’re just supposed to give us information. This is your last little bit of power that you have the weather other than that nobody’s watching so you’re gonna drag it on, five days before the storm you have meteorologist literally adult men crying and now you’re gonna spend another couple days showing that there was some damage after a hurricane wow that’s crazy. No accountability no mention of generational storm or we’re all gonna die if you don’t leave, you’re going to die not hyperbolic at all. There should be laws with the news that you have to be accountable for your fear porn. You don’t get to move onto the next story. Cover the middle of the country where the actual disaster is Carolina Georgia cover Tennessee.

All of the hoopla building up to effectively nothing. The only things affected was poor workmanship, some misplaced sand and some boats floated onto land. Sure there was some flooding, but that's to be expected when living on the coastline of any place on the planet.
