The KZbin algorithm is flooded with the stupid little snippets of news station coverage. The independent storm chasers need more exposure on the platform. In general, News Stations have ruined the KZbin entertainment experience. So annoying.

@lrx54, yep and obviously there were some homes/buildings completely leveled, this could've been so much worse. Even as the storm hit with 120mph sustained winds, the surge was less than expected and I can only imagine that everything would've been leveled/submerged if the storm came in at 180mph sustained winds which is what it's strength was a few days before it got there. Floridians really needed a break as do those in states above, thankfully the storm didn't come in stronger and turn north into GA, SC, NC etc.

For me there are two separate thoughts. First .. wishing all the best to those who have had their lives turned upside down. Second.. there are some amazing builders who constructed beach front homes that took the full blast of a major hurricane and look like nothing happened. They.. whoever they are deserve acknowledgment.

Just looking at this video, I think just to rebuild, they have to move all this waste somewhere. Cars/boats/homes and then comes the toxic clean up like mold and hazardous materials that leaked or spilled from homes and businesses and where to dump all that material. After years of past hurricanes and all the trash that have accumulated year after year on top of your everyday trash. Just so much garbage and hazardous waste. It just insane. This video shows how much is gone.

About 6 months ago we had a tornado in Texas and our roof was barely damaged, the insurance says that we have to replace it and it’ll cost at least 20K. I have a friend who rode out the storm. She said the damage is really bad and insurance companies will not cover natural disasters. Most everything that was damaged or needs rebuilding will be out of pocket costs. Living on the coast for some, they have money and the rest do not. Hard times coming for those folks. The boat squeeze between the palm tree and house is impressive. And the palms still standing. Crazy.

When people build their houses so close to the ocean, they shouldn't cry when a hurricane destroys them. If those houses were insured, then the people who built their houses a safe distance away from the ocean will also wind up paying higher premiums or have their insurance cancelled.. The state should pass laws to prohibit the rebuilding of houses so close to the water...and buy back the land from the owners. Anyone who wants to enjoy a water view should drive to public beaches, not live on them.

It's so easy to see the difference between modern construction and old homes. The old homes are wiped away, and the modern construction - likely built since Ian - are standing with little damage. It is sad that a disaster has to happen before people will build their homes to code. How do you get a huge yacht off your front lawn?
@AZsunflower
@AZsunflower 2 сағат бұрын
Codes have changed and improved over the years. Some homes were built based on the money available as well.

@@roland7584 They could go on vacations. I know about the risks but when two hurricanes hit the same area within a month, that's the moment to leave.

@@Pedrohnr23 Where would they move to? Most of the people living there came from some other place else because it wasn't fun or worth living where they were from. If the people just go on vacations to Florida, then where would all the people doing the service jobs live since you're saying no one should live there? How large of an area in this case are you going to cut out to say those are the people that should move based on your 2 hurricane hit scenario? Hurricane Helene hit most of the coast of Florida without actually "hitting" there.

"Hurricane of the century" they called it. Damage is indeed less than expected - the houses you see are mostly trailer houses - they are not designed for these hurricanes. They are relatively easy to replace. Raised houses at 1:13 are designed for hurricanes and as you can see, they are in pretty good shape.

Are we witnessing SURGE damage? Hurricane damage or is this Tornado? What force placed that yacht between the palm and the house? Wind or water? EXCELLENT drone footage. Utterly devastating. Thankful people here headed evacuation mandates. Could be far worse in lives lost.

I lost my place in during Hurricane Harvey. I hope they have the insurance and rebuilding resources. It's going to be a tough time. The clean up will take months. Then all the haggling with the insurance companies. Then trying to find a building contractor and the materials. It took 2+ years to get my condo complex re-opened after the rebuild. I then sold it. I'll never go through that again. Best of luck to all those affected.

You can hear a lot of talk about wind speed, but tidal surge can cause more serious damage. A woman in Mississippi once built a "hurricane proof house". It was on large concrete pillers, had thick walls, etc.. Ater the tidal surge, all that was left was the concrete flooring. Pillars and house had disappeared.
