Great. My pastor lives on Siesta Key. He had 6 feet of water in his lower level during Helene. He left for this one. I wonder if he still has a house. He's lived there for 61 years.

@@Coetzeefamilystead it’s a well-documented phenomenon: people get really freaked out when a storm like Helene rolls through and so then the next powerful storm is treated as armageddon. Such was the case with Katrina and Rita. That’s why Rita’s casualties were mostly from the evacuation. Such was the case with Harvey and Irma. People were NOT expecting Harvey’s impact and so when Irma formed we flipped out, but in the end it ended up not being as bad. A similar but opposite phenomenon also happens: when a Milton or an Irma rolls through people get complacent. They start to think the media is “hyping” the storms (which they do) but then this ends up converting into the belief that the storms themselves aren’t dangerous (they are) In 2011 Irene made landfall in Brooklyn, but the flooding happened in Vermont. In 2012 when Sandy hit, you woulda just had to have been there to see how PROUD people were for not evacuating. Boom: 9-12 foot surge. Many houses gone. Many people gone. People didn’t take Ian seriously because of Irma. A mistake. People in the Big Bend didn’t take Helene seriously because of Idalia: big mistake and many of them are LUCKY that the storm moved on to NC as fast as it did.
