The moment, when you cant open up the sail any further and you feel completley out of balance but it goes faster and faster no matter what you do....

Great video mate!! I was trying to land in Dublin when Ophelia was at it's best!! and the landing was aborted and flight diverted to Cork lol. I knew there was going to be someone in the Malahide Estuary windsurfing, I am so jealous!!! well done mates!!

Looks fun. You guys might think about the Oregon Coast of the U.S like Pistol River or Florence. Hood River Oregon is also destination. Summer months. Looks wonderful over there. San Francisco and Santa Cruz California have nice spots. Ho'okipa on Maui is the best though.. stay in Paia or Haiku.

I'm dying to have a session on the hood river, and hopefully will get over to hawaii once the world opens up! So far Cape Town is still my favourite spot, can't beat those monster waves! You from oregon?
@johnsongibbs65674 жыл бұрын
@@lagjetacoustic San Francisco Bay Area.. a little north of there. I have windsurfed up and down the west coast though.. and Maui. Never Cape Town though.. sounds like an adventure. I can not wait to get out again.

at 7.29 when the rider wipes,spray can be seen from the right of the screen showing the power of the gust,i think that is a gale force or storm force gust according to admiral beauforts scale?being old ,I would put the mast track forward to hold the bows down maybe?taking the approximate distance between where the gust hits as 50 feet and the time about 1/2 a second using conversion tables till the wind hits the windsurfer that makes about 68.182 mph or 59 knots,5 knots short of a hurricane force gust?i think it obvious could be worked out more accurately but severe gale to storm force gust would be accurate? it seems to take between 1/4 and 1/2 a second for the spray kicked up by the gust to hit the windsurf so ii seems to not to be unreasonable to say it could have been a hurricane 64+knot gust? though jose luis comment is a lot more accurate?
@lagjetacoustic7 жыл бұрын
A very in depth analysis I'd say, It was definitely around that speed for that gust, this was the last run of the session, sean was out on a 3.5 definitely feeling the power of the storm! It continued to rise after we left, when we visited the beach at portmarnock you can see the speed of the wind across the sand. forecast was for gusts up to 65 knots as the day progressed. Thanks for the comment James!

@loskiff5 жыл бұрын
what sail did you used? My top wind was about 40 kt (in gusts) with a 4.5, but with 50+ kt I'd use a 3.5 maybe?
@loskiff5 жыл бұрын
ok, you used a 4.5 ahah
@lagjetacoustic5 жыл бұрын
Hahaha yep, 4.5 was my smallest at the time, it was manageable but the gusts got pretty insane towards the end.. Sean is out on a 3.2 at the end but even then it was too much!

@lagjetacoustic7 жыл бұрын
Statek63 story dude, it started as thirty, it was gusting up to 60 by the time we finished up though, if you look at the last bit of footage its pretty evident that it got pretty wild! 60 knots is definitely that point when your like fuck this anyway 😂
@maxgrass81345 жыл бұрын

what is he doing ? perfect day to go fast and he is useing that tiny sail.! did he say 25 to 35 knts ? l go out on a 7.8 RS:RACEİNG evo in that weather. :D
@lagjetacoustic7 жыл бұрын
Alan Yesilipek it was gusting 60 by the time we got off ;) id say youd break a few records on a 7.8 alright 😁
@alanyesilipek79597 жыл бұрын
good on ya mate. seems you had alot of fun and excitement out there.
@piratecustom60297 жыл бұрын
7.8 is impossible. More like 5.0-ish, if you happen to be A2. Im able to sail my 9.3 with "some control" in gusts up to 20 knots, the 7.9 is a rough as hell at 27 knots, and then Im speeking about peak gusts, not average wind...So if it was gusting up to 60 knots it might have been an average windspeed at around 45-50 knots, thats 5.0-ish even for kings like A2.
@lagjetacoustic7 жыл бұрын
I agree yeah, the 4.5 i was on was a lot of power towards the end, and afterwards Sean took out the 3.5 and was getting tossed around something fierce 😁
@rohanmccracken82577 жыл бұрын
bigger sail doesn't always mean faster, you could sail a 7.8 in those winds but you'd be wide open. you'd be a lot faster on a 5
