I'm sorry to hear about your early years. We are very thankful for our circumstances. Nowhere near perfect but absolutely no room to complain I attribute our family situation to our faith in Jesus Christ . Without that I don't see how this family operation would stay together.

If you recall my Dad's sign "suits us". today reminded me of our house being built by family. Brother in law and 12 cousins built it from scratch.. even after close to 70 years the memories return of the laughter..Dad paid them every Friday. They always called him by his first name Fred, but on Fridays it was Mr. Campbell.. )))))

It's so great for Leg-Arms to make suggestions but ultimately allow you to do it your way. But having him put in a working system in his house you choose to follow his lead. I like to see the kids over there pounding away. And your dad of course is always there helping his sons.

Holy cow, that roof does have a lot of angles & pitches. I’m sure it took a lot of math to get that built, but will be so amazing when it’s done! Watching you install all those big windows made me glad I wasn’t washing them.😂 I’m so happy for both of you building new homes! Love watching the farmstead expanding, putting roots down for the next generation of farmers.

For floor bounce, you have a great idea as your doing. There also is a system of metal X bracing perpendicular between joist. It would take a huge amount of bounce out as well. Just a thought.

What about blocking between the joists? Just a thought. Looking good 👍.
@GICK117
@GICK117 7 ай бұрын
@@seansquirrell You could, but on glued engineered joist, the attachment isn't real solid as with regular joist. So a hardware system is used. I have been retired from being a GC for 10 years now. Things may have changed I guess. Southern California was my area of business.
@terryh5060
@terryh5060 7 ай бұрын
The bottom chord of the floor joist moves side-to-side when loaded, not just up-and-down like a trampoline. A stiffener (such as a 1x6) running across them every 4' on center will strengthen the joists and make them work in unison instead of individually. A ceiling plane usually stiffens joists but in the case of basements they are often dropped and therefore can't assist in this manner. Solid blocking/X-bracing also helps - no more than 8' of span between blocks.

Nick & LegArms, I am so blessed seeing brothers love and work together so strongly. You guys are such a blessing to me. I enjoyed feeling the Spirit through the video. I’d love to live near Great Falls, but I’m not hearing “move” from Him. I spent some quality time in GF, I’m a committed L&C scholar. The museum (not the gov’t, the Russel) kept my heart, ready to come back for a visit soon. So to go on so long, I feel like a distant family member. God bless you all.

Floor joist bounce? What your doing will help, but put bridging between joist!!!!! With bridging you actuality tie the joist together. So if you are walking/stepping with the joist across the floor, and only on one joist, when they are tied together it’s like walking/stepping on three!

Bit of advise on what to burn in a fireplace. No OSB and avoid pine. OSB has chemicals and pine will line the chimney flue with a lot of creosote. Creosote has to be removed every year after burning. I burn 5-6 months out of the year for heating my home. I never burn pine. I save it for the fire pit. BTW, Awesome front porch!!

Just had three lads sliding them along the wall plate and into place. Struggled with the height of them . Had similar ones and eventually made the space into rooms in later years . Great feeling of satisfaction watching its progress . The one thing I’d change is the utility room . I’d make it 15ft sq at least 😊. Thanks for sharing your build and lives. Nick, you need to add squash blocking on the I joists anywhere there is a point load on them, IE, around the perimeter of the foundation and where they sit on any beam. The top and bottom cords can “squash” and or rotate over time. It is recommended by the the truss manufacturer. There should be a provision for it on your truss layout. Let me know if you have any questions.
