You all should really be wearing safety glasses. Hammers chip, other things break, plus it will help keep the dirt out of your eyes. I'm a chemist so I got used to wearing them in the lab but I also wear them in the shop when I'm working on our forklift or dozer just to make sure nothing gets in my eye. Luckily the only thing I have gotten stuck in my eye was a contact. It was wedged up on top of my eyeball and the optometrist had to put a dye in my eye to stain the contact so he could find it so not the most pleasant thing but better than having a piece of steel drilled from your eye or worse yet losing your vision. Safety first is a great way to make sure you still have everything you were born with when you shuffle off this mortal coil and that's my goal. Great project love seeing old iron being put back to use which is my milling machines, lathes, and bandsaw are all over 60 years old, well that and I can't afford newer :)

You guys have been really aching for a grain cart but lacked the tractor to pull it. I saw the 'test fit' of the hydraulic PTO there and know that is just a hint of what is to come. This also explains the extremely high horsepower you are planning with this machine. The massive tires will ensure it floats over the fields and really should not have any problems with getting stuck although to say that is to potentially jinx that......😏😏

Have you considered rolling the axles out and wire brushing or sandblasting before final repainting?

After seeing how easy this is to do, everyone will be making this modification to their Big Buds. 😂 Nice work, guys, and of course, I'm being sarcastic. That is a ton of work. Be sure to pressure test your oil tanks before painting and filling with oil. Oil will find any little hole and leak, I used to build oil tanks on Wagner Mining Equipment loaders and dump trucks.

A pallet jack for removing/installing tires helps immensely. Especially when you don’t have enough room in the shop to get at it from the side

When I was younger, I loved working on projects like this! Converting smaller tractors to use Chevy parts to fabricating equipment. It was always fun bringing out the larger socket sets, as most people freak out at the thought of a 1" drive, but freak at the thought of a 2-1/2" drive! We always had a tight budget, so what we did was hijack parts off of other equipment. It was always funny how JD equipment was never used as spare parts! This looks like a great way to spend a winter! It would be fun to see how the finished product holds up to a tractor pull!

This tractor rebuild is epic. This is way better then watching someone do a will it start video on an old car just to leave the car sit there. The advantage to rebuilding this monster on your own is you guys will know every inch of this bad boy front to back. I'd suggest the name phoenix because this baby is rising from the ashes but idk if that's a good big bud name lol, Big Phoenix lol . Merry Christmas everyone and God bless us, everyone. 🎅 🤶 🎄 And I'd be willing to bet that this rebuild will be the envy of farmers across the country. Not anywhere near a epic fail. I have much faith in you guys. All farmers should be watching this series.

Pretty cool right! 75,000lb 980b axles. Series 3 BUDS used 72,000lb Clarke axles. The new BIG BUD series 5 will have 988 cat axles, I think they are nearly 100,000lb axles

The wider gap on top of the fender well needed as the weight of the tractor settles down onto the tire. I would maintain that gap on top for the new tires.

I just hope the transmission ratio works with the rear end gear and the new drive line angle doesn’t cause a vibration. It’s hard to tell on a little screen lol. The tractor is a really good design I’m surprised they never covered the country. Just to big for most areas I guess

They were just really catching on when a problem at Twin Disc left them with 80 tractors built and waiting for transmissions. Really set them back plus the 80s were tough economic times for ag and they just couldn't get ahead again.

I maybe too late, but while it’s all in pieces, you should think about ‘sandblasting’ it, prior to painting so you’ve protected it from future rusting? Also it’d make a good video! Just a thought

Too bad they don't have a Scania V8 16.1 liter 770 hp which is only 8 hp less. But better in every other way with more durability and consumes less fuel and has more torque about 3700nm which is 350nm more. Or why not Volvo's 6a 17 liter 780 hp and 3800 nm. Soon maybe Scania will start selling trucks with the world's best v8 with 770 hp. I don't know who manufactures this 6a of 778 hp. But what I don't know nothing beats Scania and Volvo in said engines. Older Steiger in Sweden have several installed older scania v8 engines and draw 50% less and give much more power.

If you start titling with the words “MONSTER TRUCK TIRES” you will get a ton of new subs. No one cares about “ag tires” or “big tires” but “MONSTER TRUCK TIRES” now that’s insane and ppl like insane. So let the ppl know in the titles and the thumb nails that you two brothers are insane. We like insanity.

I’m really enjoying this Bud rebuild. It’s great how you’re taking something that was considered junk and making it usable again. I especially like the idea that you can do your own repairs and not an authorized dealer like what those guys are dealing with their new John Deere equipment. This tractor will do all the functions and get the job done. And the best thing, no government juice. Looking forward to seeing it in operation this spring.
